Stefanos Tsitsipas lost the opening match of the tournament against Andrey Rublev by 6-4 and 6-4 after winning only 68% of the points on his first serve comparing to 90% of his opponent. The Greek didn’t have any break points during the match while Rublev had seven.
It’s been a tough period of the year for Tsitsipas as he retired in the second round of last week’s Paris Masters against Alexei Popyrin with a minor injury.
Previously the Greek lost to players ranked much lower than him. In Vienna he lost in three sets to Frances Tiafoe after beating Grigor Dimitrov in the first round.
In Indian Wells, he also lost in three sets, this time against Nikoloz Basilashvili in the quarterfinals. He defeated Fabio Fognini, Alex De Minaur and Pedro Martinez until that point.
This season, Tsitsipas has a 55-19 overall record, with 26-8 on hard surface and only 6-5 indoors.

Casper Ruud qualifying for the ATP finals is his greatest accomplishment in his young career but the Norwegian has not come in Turin just to play and take pictures.
The 22-year-old performed well in the first match despite losing 7-6 and 6-2 to the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
Ruud broke first in the match and led 3-1 but couldn’t hold on and lost 7-4 in the tie-break. The second set was a different story as Djokovic took his game on another level to win that part of the game in just 30 minutes.
Ruud had 9 aces in the match which is pretty high for him but also made 4 double faults. His 62% of hitting the first serve will have to go up if he wants to have a chance against Tsitsipas. Ruud won 63% on his first serve and only 42% on his second serves, another aspect of the game that needs to improve quickly.
The Norwegian has a 53-16 record this season with 16-6 on hard surface and 5-3 indoors.
Recently in Paris, Ruud defeated Marcos Giron and Alexander Bublik before losing to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.
Previously in Vienna, Ruud defeated Lloyd Harris and Lorenzo Sonego but couldn’t go past Jannik Sinner.

Ruud is healthy and ready to go against Tsitsipas. If he wins this one it will be considered the biggest win of his career to this point and knowing how hard working Ruud is, it won’t be a surprise if that happens.
