San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio SpursIt’s very unusual to see a San Antonio Spurs team struggling to make the postseason, but that’s the reality the Spurs fans will have to cope with this season and most like the next couple of them. They’ve turned to their young core completely and are just 3-6 to start the season so far. They beat the Orlando Magic 102-89 on Friday which ended a two-game losing streak. Defense once again proved to be the difference as they held the Magic to just 39% shooting, Dejounte Murray stood out once again with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. He has jumped out and taken over the keys as the leader of this team, however he will need a lot more help if he wants to beat a young and gritty OKC team.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City ThunderThat young OKC team has had an interesting start to the season, to say the least. They’ve lost 6 of 8 games, however the 2 wins came against none other than the Los Angeles Lakers. They were once again down by as many as 19-points, but that didn’t bother them as they came back roaring and won the game by 3-points in the end. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 28 points and 6 assists, Lu Dort chipped in 17 as well. Aside from the youth, the biggest issue this Thunder team faces is their scoring – they rank only 29th in points per game and 28th in shooting from the field. The good news is they face a team they’ve beaten 8 times in their last 11 games hosting them.

If it weren’t for the Lakers, the Thunder would be 0-8 this season. The two comebacks they had against them were a great moral boost for this young team, but now they face an uphill battle against the Spurs. San Antonio isn’t as good as in past years, but they still have Gregg Popovich leading them, you just know they won’t take any game lightly so I’m leaning towards the Spurs in this one, but not by much.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Tips

San Antonio -4.0 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365!

Neither team excels on the offensive end, the Thunder are near the bottom of the NBA in offensive efficiency scoring just 95.7 points per 100 possessions. The Spurs are 21st, but they average almost 10 points more than them. The total has trended towards under in most of OKC’s games so far this season, with 6 of their last 8 cashing. If we look at the last 6 head-to-head meetings the under has cashed more than 50% of the time and the two teams are averaging just 206.8 combined points so far this season between them. Spurs will be without Jacob Poeltl in this one, he has averaged almost 14 points per game for them this season, so they’ll take a hit without him in the line-up. This should be a lower scoring game, so let’s back the under.
