That’s not necessarily all bad news for San Antonio fans, this team is doing exactly what the plan was before the season started. If they lose enough games they will have the best odds of landing phenom Victor Wembanyama in next year’s NBA Draft.
This team is dead last in both offensive and defensive efficiency. An already limited roster has a few injuries to deal with, so it’s been all downhill for Gregg Popovich and his staff. They do have a positive record in head-to-head meetings with the Rockets, beating them 13 times in the last 19 meetings. I’m not sure how much weight to put into those numbers though, as all the wins happened in years prior to this one.
Houston Rockets
The Rockets have also had their fair share of losses this season, but unlike the Spurs they are actually trying to develop their young core and win games. We saw proof of that in their last 2 of 3 outings with them beating the 76ers 132-123 after double OT and also winning a game at Phoenix 122-121 over the weekend. Despite all that though, only 1 game in the win column separates them from San Antonio, so it’ll be an interesting battle in tonight’s game. Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green will be the key players for Houston here, they are one of the most talented backcourts in the league right now. However, the road form is a worry for the Rockets here as they have only 3 wins in their last 17 games.
I’m not expecting anything pretty on the court to happen in this game, these two teams have lost a combined 35 games already this season. I’d lean slightly towards the Rockets here, but don’t expect a blowout like in past Spurs games here. Take the road squad.
