New York Knicks
It’s panic time in New York as the Knicks have dropped 3 straight and 4 of their last 5 games. Against Denver on Saturday they managed just 99 points at Madison Square Garden in a 14-point loss. Julius Randle showed up with 24 points, but the rest of the team didn’t follow his lead as they finished with just 39% shooting from the field. Nikola Jokic torched them with 32 points and 11 rebounds in just 27 minutes of play, showing once more how weak this New York team is on the inside. The Knicks actually have a better record on the road than at home this season, they’ve won 6 of 10 games away from MSG which is a reason to be optimistic for tonight’s game. However, playing the Spurs on the road hasn’t been kind to this team, they’ve dropped their last 7 games there.
San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio was finally catching steam with a 4-game winning streak, but they ran into the Phoenix Suns last night and had to capitulate 108-104 for their 14th loss of the season. Dejounte Murray had 17 points and 14 rebounds as all five starters scored in double figures, but in the end they couldn’t get timely stops and it cost them the game. Spurs enter tonight’s game as 2.5 point underdogs, in that role this season they are just 5-12 SU. They did cover the spread in their last 5 games in a row and in 6 of their last 7, however against Atlantic Division opponents they are just 1-6 SU in their last 7 outings.
The Knicks really need a win right now, but as much as they need it I don’t think the Spurs style of play fits them well here. San Antonio assists on 64.3% of their baskets, the 2nd highest mark in the league. During their win streak they even beat Golden State, so I’m confident they’ll have enough at home against a struggling Knicks side. Back Spurs to cover.
San Antonio Spurs – New York Knicks Predictions & Odds
San Antonio +2.5 Point Spread is available -110 odds on bet365
The Knicks rank only 25th in pace of play and the under has landed 6 times in their last 7 road games. We haven’t seen many points scored in the last 3 meetings between the two sides, the under has cashed twice during that stretch and they are averaging just 209 points per game. San Antonio’s last 4 of 5 games in December have all gone under the total and their defense has been on point holding opponents to under 100 points in 3 of the last 5 games. New York has struggled shooting the ball for a while now, combine that with the Spurs poor shooting from the free-throw line, I think we could be in for a lower scoring affair. The previous meeting between the two sides finished 102-98 last season, so I’m confident we’ll see a similar score tonight. Back the under.
