Toronto Raptors

Toronto RaptorsAllowing a team to shoot 55% from the field and 41% from three-point land is never a good sign, that’s exactly what the Toronto Raptors did against the Utah Jazz last night and it ended in a 119-103 defeat. The Raptors got decent production from their starters, however the bench scored only 20 points, far too little against a team like the Jazz. It was their 3rd loss in a row and 4th in the last 5 games. They are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference standings and if this losing streak continues they’ll be in trouble very soon. Facing the Sacramento Kings might be a good thing, they’ve beaten them 4 times in their last 5 road games. However, they will have to do so without hteir leading scorer OG Anunoby who will be out indefinitely with a hip injury.

Sacramento Kings

Sacramento KingsThe Kings are having issues of their own after scoring just 97 points against Minnesota in a 10-point loss on Wednesday. De’Aaron Fox had 28 on the night, but outside of him none of the starters scored more than 13 points. As a team Sacramento shot just 36% from the field and 26% from three, despite outrebounding their opponents by 12 it still wasn’t enough. With 6 wins and 9 losses after 15 games they are only 12th in the Western Conference standings, which is worrying considering they are currently without any major injuries and yet they are unable to beat mediocre teams like the Timberwolves or Thunder. The Kings have gone 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games and have covered the spread just once in their last 6 games vs teams from the Atlantic Division.

Both teams are struggling right now, but I am leaning towards Toronto because of several reasons. Raptors are 7-1 SU in the last 8 meetings and have covered the spread in 9 of their last 13 road games overall. The Kings home form has been awful this season, they have just 2 wins in 6 games compared to Toronto’s 5 wins in 8 road games. Give me Toronto to cover.

These two teams are very similar offensively. They rank 12th and 13th in offensive efficiency this season, which is really telling coming into tonight’s game. Both also have their issues on the defensive end. Toronto has allowed 119 against the Jazz, 118 against the Blazers and 127 against Detroit in their last three games. The over has landed in 5 of their last 6 games and going up against a team that scores a lot and doesn’t defend I have a feeling we might see yet another high scoring game here. The Kings allow 110.5 points per game which is the 5th highest mark in the NBA. On offense they rank high as well by scoring 110.7 per game which puts them in 4th place behind only Golden State, Charlotte and Utah. This isn’t all that surprising considering they average 103.4 possessions per game which is the 4th fastest pace right now in the NBA. In the last 3 meetings head-to-head the over has landed in all 3 games and they’ve averaged 249.2 points per game. Fasten your seatbelts, we might be in for a fast paced game here with a ton of points on both ends. Give me the over.
