Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers 1The biggest question surrounding the Lakers these day is the health of LeBron James and that appears to be the deal after their latest game as well. LeBron had 33 points and led the Lakers to an important 110-106 win over the Pistons, but near the end of the game he appeared to have re-injured his groin and as a result is now listed as day-to-day on the injury report. If he isn’t able to play the Lakers could be in trouble. Even with James in the line-up they couldn’t beat the Kings on Friday in a game that went into 3 extra sessions. One reason to be optimistic ahead of tonight’s game for Lakers fans is that they’ve head success playing the Kings in their own gym. LA is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 visits, however they have just 1 win in their last 5 against them overall.

Sacramento Kings

Sacramento KingsSacramento is unable to stay consistent these days and that’s the biggest issue this team is facing right now. After their two big wins over the Blazers and Lakers, they had a really good opportunity to win their third straight against the Morant-less Grizzlies, but they fell short 128-101 on the road. They just collapsed offensively and finished the night shooting 34% from the field and just 21% from three-point land. So there’s a lot more work to be done for new head coach Alvin Gentry who has taken over a week or so ago. With him at the helm we’ve seen some improvements, especially on the offensive side, however the Kings will have to pick it up defensively as they’ve allowed 128, 137, 121 and 123 points in 4 of their last 5 games. That simply isn’t going to get it done moving forward. Sacramento is also just 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games and at home they’ve covered just once in their last 6 games.

I’d recommend waiting to see if LeBron will play here or not, but let’s just assume he will play. The Lakers are far better in every aspect with the King, they had a big lead in that game against the Kings a few days ago, but they blew it. On paper they have a ton more talent and I just cannot trust this Kings team at home, so I’m siding with LA in this one.

Lakers -2.5 Point Spread available at -110 odds on bet365

These two teams both rank in the top 4 when it comes to opponent points per game over their last 3 outings. The Lakers have conceded an average of 121 per game during the stretch, while the Kings are even worse with 128.7 per game scored against them. In the last 10 meetings an average of 232.7 points per game have been scored and the over has cashed 6 times. The 3 most recent meetings are even more high scoring with 234.3 points per game. LA’s defense on the road is 5th worst in the NBA right now with an average of 115.8 points being scored against them per game, while Sacramento allows 109.5 per game which ranks in the bottom 10 at home. With Russell Westbrook playing the point guard position there’s just too many wasted possessions for the Lakers as he pushes up the tempo a lot. LA ranks 2nd in pace of play, only behind the Houston Rockets. Sacramento is also in the Top 10 ranking 9th, so I think we are in for a high octane game here which should result in a ton of points on both sides. Go with the Over.
