Dame scored 8 threes on the night, as a team Portland knocked down 23 of them which is just 1 shy of a franchise record. They continue to be one of the most prolific teams in the NBA on a nightly basis, against the Wizards they scored 124 in the first meeting of the season played 10 days ago.
With Nurkic and Grant out of the line-up a lot of people thought this team would struggle, but that’s not been the case as they’ve won 2 of 3 games. They’ve had the Wizards’ number in head-to-head meetings lately winning 7 of the last 8, however in the last 10 Blazers games vs East teams they are only 1-9 ATS.
Washington Wizards
Washington brings a 2-game win streak to Moda Center tonight, they’ve been able to cover the spread in 4 of their last 6 visits to this building and tonight they are 3.5 point underdogs. A big question surrounding this team for tonight’s game is the status of Kyle Kuzma who is questionable with an ankle issue. It’ll be up to Kristaps Porzingis and Bradley Beal to lead the offense, that worked well in the game played vs Portland 10 days ago as both of them went over 30 points on a very efficient shooting night.
The defense was the issue though, they allowed 17 threes from the Blazers and if they don’t do something about that in tonight’s game it could be a long night. Washington is 8-4 SU/ATS in their last 12 games, they’ve also covered in 5 of 7 games played on the road.
Fatigue might be a factor here for Portland, but they’ve been in such high shooting form I’m not really sure if it’s a good idea to bet against them. Neither team has been all that efficient scoring wise, they’re shooting around 45% each so the numbers they’re putting up in head-to-head meetings are quite impressive. Usually when teams play on a 2nd night of a back-to-back the defense is a step slower, for a Portland side that ranks only 26th in defensive efficiency I’m expecting that to be the case here.
Washington isn’t all that better, they allow 112.1 points per 100 possessions this season, ranking only 19th. After seeing the Trail Blazers allow 120+ points in 4 of their last 5 games, I think backing the over is the smartest way to approach tonight’s game, even with the high projected total.
