Portland Trail Blazers

Portland Trail BlazersI’m actually positively surprised by the recent play of the Portland Trail Blazers who have won their last 4 games, with their last 2 wins coming against the defending champions Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies, both on the road. In both of those games the Blazers scored over 120 points which is a really good sign ahead of tonight’s game. They did receive some bad news yesterday though with center Jusuf Nurkic injuring his foot which will cause him to miss at least a month of action, leaving a big void to be filled at the center position as he averages 11.1 rebounds for them. Portland has been solid against the spread lately covering in 4 of their last 5 games, however against Western Conference opponents they are only 5-15 SU in their last 20 games.

Golden State Warriors

Golden State WarriorsWith the injury news to Chris Paul the Warriors now have a decision to make if they want to chase the number one seed in the Western Conference. Heading into tonight’s game they are 6.5 games back from the Suns, but with an injured Paul they are expected to fall off a little bit which could be an opportunity for the Warriors. However, Golden State has also struggled over their last 5 games going just 1-4 SU and failing to cover in all 5 of those games. Draymond Green remains out with a calf injury, along with Andre Iguodala (back) and James Wiseman (knee).

Missing Draymond has had a huge impact on the defensive play of this team, so it’ll be interesting to see how they perform against a red-hot Portland team here. They have a really good record in head-to-head meetings beating the Blazers 8 times in the last 12 games, plus they are also 15-5 SU in their last 20 against Northwest Division opponents.

The Warriors are heavy favorites here even though the Blazers have won 4 in a row. Golden State hasn’t performed well against the spread lately, for the season they are just 12-13-2 ATS in road games and I think they won’t have enough to beat the Blazers by 10 tonight. Let’s back the home team and the extra points in this one.

Portland Trail Blazers vs Golden State Warriors Predictions & Odds

These 2 teams have played each other twice this season and the totals in those 2 games were 221 and 198 points, I think both of those will be surpassed in tonight’s game. Over the last 10 meetings the average amount of points scored was 229 points per game with the teams shooting around 45% during that stretch of games. If we look at only games played at Moda Center then the over has cashed 14 times in the last 18 games. For Golden State the over has cashed 4 times in their last 5 games, mainly because of the defensive drop-off caused by the absence of Draymond Green. Portland has gone under a lot lately, but with the news of Nurkic’s injury they will have no interior presence here, so don’t be surprised if they try to play fast in order to compensate for that. Before the all-star break they dropped 120+ points on 2 elite defensive teams in Memphis and Milwaukee, I see no reason why they couldn’t do the same against a struggling Warriors defense tonight. Let’s back the over in this one.
