We are half-way through November and the Portland Trail Blazers are top of their division, ahead of both Denver and Utah which is something not a lot of people predicted before the season started. The return from injury of one Damian Lillard, but also improvements on defense has propelled this team to a 10-4 record over their first 14 games. Dame had a modest 22 points in their latest win over San Antonio, but came up clutch down the stretch with a key block and shot to seal the deal.
Two other Blazer players scored 20+ points, so Lillard is getting a lot more help than in previous years. With momentum on their side, they welcome the Brooklyn Nets tonight, a team they’ve beaten 6 times in the las 10 meetings. Jusuf Nurkic and Justise Winslow are both questionable with injuries for this one.
Brooklyn Nets
The situation at Brooklyn is on a tipping point, the team is playing poorly and there are multiple reports of how unhappy everyone is with Ben Simmons. The Kings just beat them by 32 points, scoring 153 points on them.
After the game Kevin Durant basically threw his team under the bus saying they are just not talented enough to win games right now. That all should change this Sunday when Kyrie Irving comes back following his suspension. Until then though, the Nets are going to continue to struggle. They are just 1-6 SU in their last 7 games vs Western Conference teams, plus against the Blazers they’ve won only 5 times in the last 18 head-to-head. Aside from Irving, this team has a clean slate in terms of injuries, so new head coach Jacque Vaughn has at least that working for him.
The mood around this Nets team is at an all-time low and I’m not expecting much from them tonight. Portland’s chemistry is just way better right now and Dame is playing at an elite level. Take the Blazers at home in this one.

A surprisingly low projected total of 220.5 has been set for tonight’s game, after the Nets allowed 153 points against the Sacramento Kings. Portland has cleared that number in two games in a row, they are averaging almost 110 points per game this season. In head-to-head meetings we’ve seen an average of 239.3 points per game over the last 10 played, so even if the total has gone over in just 4 of those games, I am still expecting a high scoring game tonight. Both teams rank in the upper half of the NBA in terms of offensive efficiency – Brooklyn is 9th, while the Blazers are 12th.
The Nets haven’t really been all that impressive on defense ranking only 15th in efficiency on that end. I’m expecting the Blazers to go all out here, especially Lillard against who the Nets don’t have a solution at the moment. Take the over.
