Inconsistency is the word that perfectly describes the Blazers in 2023. Following big time wins over the Spurs and Jazz in which they scored 147 and 134 points, they followed it up with a home loss to the Toronto Raptors this weekend, letting down a lot of people in the process. They are still 2.5 point favorites against the Hawks tonight though, which could be due to their home record in head-to-head meetings.
They’ve covered in 5 straight games vs Atlanta at Moda Center, plus they are also 10-5 ATS in their last 15 games overall played there. It’s also worth pointing out that a couple of players are questionable, namely Jusuf Nurkic and Josh Hart have calf and hamstring injuries. Losing Nurkic would be devastating as it would leave the middle of the floor wide open for the Hawks to exploit.
Atlanta Hawks
At 25-25 the Hawks are doing slightly better on the season overall, but they draw a lot of similarities to this Blazers squad. They’ve been surprisingly good at 5-1 SU in their last 6 road games, but they could be without their leading scorer and best player Trae Young tonight as he is bothered by an ankle problem. In 5 games without Young, the Hawks have a losing record of 2-3 SU this season.
Defensively there have been quite a few issues over their last 5 games. They’ve allowed 120+ points in 4 of those, that’s not something you want to hear when you’re heading into a game against the Player who dropped 60 points just a couple of nights ago. Hawks are 3-6 SU in the last 9 meetings, they’ve also covered the spread just twice during that stretch.
With the uncertainty of Young hovering above this Hawks team, I’m hesitant to back them on the road here. Despite their inconsistencies, the Blazers still have the home court advantage and Damian Lillard is healthy and playing well. Take the home team in this one.

Tonight against the Hawks they won’t run into so much resistance on offense as they are playing one of the worst teams on that end in the entire NBA. Atlanta’s last 6 of 7 games have gone over the total, including 10 of their last 11 vs Northwest Division opponents.
Looking at just head-to-head meetings those too have also been productive on the over with 7 of the last 10 cashing on that bet. An average of 227.9 points per game have been scored in those games, so tonight’s 236 point projected total doesn’t sound like too big of an obstacle.
