Fresh off their 110-106 loss at Staples Center on Sunday, the Detroit Pistons continue their road trip and head to Portland in hopes of ending a 6-game losing streak. They’ve dropped all 3 games so far on this trip and with their next 2 games being in Portland and Phoenix they could very well go back with a 0-5 record. There were some encouraging signs against the Lakers on Sunday though, Jerami Grant had yet another big game with 32 points and Cade Cunningham finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. However, they did play one of the worst defensive teams in basketball, so those numbers might not mean a lot at the end of the day. One number that does mean a lot is Detroit’s road record at Portland which stands at 2-11 SU in their last 13 visits. They’ve covered the spread against the Blazers just once in the last 6 games.
Portland Trail Blazers
Portland is in a similar situation as the Pistons are, at least when it comes to playing on the road. They too are also coming off a 3-game road losing streak against the Kings, Warriors and Lakers, so tonight’s game is a bounce back opportunity for them in their own gym. Playing at the Moda Center has been a joy for these Blazers, they’ve won 9 of their first 10 games and seem untouchable for majority of the teams that come in. After it seemed Damian Lillard has finally gotten out of his slump, he has played poorly in their last two games with just 11 and 16 points. He is way more efficient at home though, so I expect him to pick it up tonight against one of the worst teams in the NBA. Blazers are 9-0 SU in their last 9 home games and have covered in 7 of 10 games.
Detroit did manage to put up a fight against the Lakers and covered the spread in the end, however this is a different team in Portland they are facing. Dame and co. have been dominant at home and have a net rating of +11.7, which is only 2nd to the Golden State Warriors. Back Portland to win by double digits.

These two teams are ranked in the middle of the pack when it comes to pace averaging 98 possessions per game. However, if we go by recent trends I think we can expect a high scoring game here. Detroit’s last 5 of 6 games vs Western Conference teams have all gone over the total, same goes for Portland’s 6 of 8 games overall. Recent head-to-head meetings have also been productive with an average of 219 points per game being scored over the last 3 games and in the last 10 they are combining to score 217.2 per game. Both teams are healthy and without any major injuries at the moment, so that also works in our favor. Portland’s leaky defense is allowing 124 points per game in their last 3, so even a team like Detroit that doesn’t score that much should take advantage of that. Let’s back the over in this one.
