Phoenix Suns

Phoenix SunsLife is starting to become difficult for the Western Conference leading Suns as they’ve now dropped 2 in a row. Not having their point guard and leader Chris Paul is starting to catch up, especially since his back-up Cameron Payne is still out with a wrist injury.

His status has been updated to probable for tonight’s game, but until he is back I am having trouble backing them to cover such big spreads. They are entering tonight’s game as 13-point favorites, despite needing overtime to beat the Portland Trail Blazers the last time they played.

Suns are also just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and against Western Conference opponents they’ve covered the spread only once in 6 attempts. They do have a solid home record though with 9 wins in 11 games, but that will get tested tonight with the Blazers coming to town.

Portland Trail Blazers

Portland Trail BlazersEven though the Blazers are heavily shorthanded all season long, they have been able to pull off a couple of upsets recently. First they went to Milwaukee and beat the defending champions by 15, then they followed it up with another sublime performance at Memphis by beating Ja Morant and co. 123-119.

Even though they lost both of their games after the all-star break, they should be a tough match-up for the Suns here. They pushed them to overtime the last time they played, plus Portland did win the first meeting of the season between the two teams back in October by a whopping 29 points.

Anfernee Simons has taken over the scoring duties as Damian Lillard is still not back, center Jusuf Nurkic has also injured his foot and will miss at least a month which means we could be in for a run and gun style of game here. Blazers are just 5-15 SU in their last 20 games vs West teams, but they aren’t without a chance in this one in my opinion.

I still think the Suns will come out on top here, but with a 15-18 ATS home record I’m just not sure if it’s wise to back them to cover a 13-point spread. Until they sort out their backcourt issues, I’m going against them. Back the road team and the extra points.

Phoenix Suns vs Portland Trail Blazers Predictions & Odds

Both teams have been point friendly in their recent games, so tonight’s projected total of 227.5 points sounds very doable here. The last time the Suns hosted the Blazers the game finished with 228 points scored and the 2 teams have gone over 227.5 twice already this season.

If we expand our search to the last 10 meetings we can see the over cashing in 7 of them and an average of 232.9 points per game being scored. The total has gone over in 7 of 9 for the Suns and in 4 of 5 vs Northwest Division teams.

Portland has gone over the total in 6 of 8 on the road and they are 15-12 on the O/U away from home for the season. Combine that with the Suns going 19-14 on the O/U at home and you have an entertaining game with a ton of points being scored coming your way.

Portland has allowed 125 points per game over their last 3, for the season teams are scoring 113.1 per game on them on the road so even a shorthanded Suns team should have their way with them. Expect a lot of points here, go with the over.
