Detroit Pistons

Detroit PistonsThe Pistons have been the opposite of what the Suns are this season. With only one player on the team averaging solid NBA numbers, the Pistons are destined to end the season as one of the bottom 3 teams in the Eastern Conference, barring some miracle. Jerami Grant leads this team with almost 20 points per game, but he cannot do it alone and this team is currently on a 7 game losing streak. They got beat by the Portland Trail Blazers 110-92 last time they played and tonight’s game will be their last of a 5-game road trip and they are still without a win. Oddly enough they have a very good record against the Suns in head-to-head meetings, they’ve beaten them in 8 of the last 10 and have covered the spread 8 times in the last 9 games.

Phoenix Suns

Phoenix SunsPhoenix beat the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday and now has the bragging rights for best team in the NBA. But, the win came at a cost as they lost Devin Booker to a hamstring injury, he is expected to miss several games, thankfully it’s just a minor sprain and he should be fine. Joining him on the sidelines will be Abdel Nader, but the Suns rotation is big enough to handle this without any issues. They have the 3rd best Net Rating in the NBA at +6.5 this season which isn’t all that surprising considering they rank 6th in offensive rating and 2nd in defensive rating. This team has no flaws at the moment and outtalents the Pistons at almost every position.

Despite the long win streak, Phoenix doesn’t blowout teams that often. Their last 4 of 5 wins came by 8, 6, 5 and 4 points, so that’s something to think about here. They’ve covered the spread 6 times in 11 home games and just twice in the last 10 vs Detroit. I don’t think they’ll lose, but the Pistons could keep this one close, so let’s back them to cover.

Pistons +12.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

We’ve seen a slight increase in scoring over the last few weeks for the Suns, with 5 of their last 7 games going over the total. In particular their games against Eastern Conference teams have been very productive on the over with 11 of the last 16 cashing. Same goes for the Pistons and their games against Western Conference teams with 5 of the last 7 cashing on that bet. If we look at the stats for the last 10 meetings these two teams are averaging 216 points per game, which would put us over the total tonight. CP3 is fine form, Deandre Ayton will have a battle down low with Isaiah Stewart and although the Suns have lost Booker I think they’ll score enough here to push us over the total. They play at the 4th fastest pace in the NBA, which is a good sign. Let’s back the over.
