Denver Nuggets

Denver NuggetsMVP Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets have struggled a bit in their last 3 games losing to the Mavericks, 76ers and Bulls. Jokic had 30+ performances in two of those games, he did not play on Friday against the Bulls due to a wrist injury. His status for tonight is still unresolved and the medical staff has listed him as ‘questionable’. Without him Will Barton and Aaron Gordon picked up the slack with 23 and 28 points, but that’s far too little for a Nuggets team currently missing two of their best players. Facing the Suns has been a challenge for Denver lately, they’ve beaten them only once in their last 5 meetings and have gone 1-4 ATS in the last 5 road games.

Phoenix Suns

Phoenix SunsThe Suns are flying high right now and will be looking to win their 12th straight game tonight. They are coming off back-to-back home wins over the Dallas Mavericks, who were without their best player Luka Doncic in both games. That shouldn’t take away from just how good the Suns have been lately though. Devin Booker is playing extremely well, Chris Paul is still on an elite level and to top things off they just recently got Deandre Ayton back from injury, he adds another dimension to both their defense and offense. These two teams did meet up already once this season and the Nuggets came out on top 110-98 in the season opener for both teams. A ton has changed since, Denver has been hit hard by the injury bug and the Suns are the hottest team in the NBA right now. They’ve covered the spread in 7 of their last 10 games and have gone 12-6 ATS in their last 18 games vs Northwest Division opponents.

Even if Jokic plays here I’m not giving the Nuggets much of a chance against these Suns. Injuries are catching up to this Denver team, just two games ago they weren’t able to beat a 76ers team without Embiid which is very telling. I have the Suns winning by at least 8 points in this one. Give me Phoenix to cover.

Phoenix Suns – Denver Nuggets Predictions

Suns -7.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

This will be a clash of two vastly different styles of play. The Nuggets like to slow things down and play in the half-court, while the Suns like to run a bit more. Denver averages the least amount of possessions per game in the NBA right now at 94.8, while the Suns are in 12th place averaging 99.8 per game. The thing that’s kept the Nuggets so high up in the standings has been their defense, right now they are allowing 100.1 points per game for the season. That number was under 100 points for a long time, but in their last 3 games they’ve allowed 109.3 per game which is a bit concerning. On the road they allow 106 points per game which is almost 10 points more than at home. The Suns have the 8th most efficient offense in the NBA right and going against a wounded Denver team, I think they will put up numbers tonight. They’ve gone over the 100-point mark in 4 of their last 5 games and I expect them to do so tonight as well. These two teams have averaged 226.3 points per game in the last 10 meetings. Give me the over here.
