The week hasn’t been going according to plan for the 76ers so far as they’ve dropped both of their games. First they let a 21 point lead slip in the game at Madison Square Garden, then they proceeded to lose against their biggest rival in the conference at the moment Boston, scoring only 99 points in the process.
That’s very unusual for a team loaded like the Sixers are, so they’ll be looking to make amends tonight in front of the home crowd. At 20-8 SU they are one of the better home teams in the NBA, they’ve lost just twice to the Knicks in this building over the last 12 meetings. Joel Embiid is still bothered by his lingering foot injury, but he should be able to suit up according to the latest reports.
New York Knicks
The Knicks had the opposite start to their week so far winning their last 2 games against Philly and Orlando. Defensively things have improved dramatically over their last 4 games, as they’ve held 3 of their opponents to just 98, 97 and 104 points. Without center Mitchell Robinson manning the middle, the Knicks had struggled to defend in weeks prior, but all that appears to be fixed now.
Julius Randle, RJ Barrett and Jalen Brunson are all averaging over 20 points per game this season, on some nights opponents are having a hard time stopping all 3 of them and that’s the Knicks’ biggest strength this season. This team has been one of the most consistent in the NBA in covering the spread in road games, doing so 18 times in 27 games so far.
I still have Philadelphia winning here, despite the numbers being slightly in New York’s favor. Embiid has had a couple of disappointing performances in his last 2 games, I wouldn’t be surprised if he went for 40 points tonight. With the under cashing 7 times in the last 10 meetings between the two teams, the projected total has been lowered a bit here which should make it a bit easier for the two teams to go over.
