Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia 76ers 1Joel Embiid is making a serious case for MVP honors this season as he continues to dominate opponents. In the 13 point win over Orlando he had 50 points in just 27 minutes of play, he became only the 3rd played in Sixers history to have multiple 50 point games in a season joining Wilt Chamberlain and Allen Iverson. Despite all the dominance though, Philly is only 5th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 26-18 record, but if Embiid is able to sustain this level of play they’ll be up in the Top 3 in no time. Against the Clippers they’ve had a pretty solid record over the past 10 meetings winning 7 of them and covering the spread 8 times. In tonight’s game they’ll be a bit shorthanded with Danny Green missing the game with a hip injury, while Seth Curry is shorthanded with an ankle problem.

LA Clippers

LA ClippersInjuries and Clippers are almost synonymous this season as LA tries to figure things out with their 2 best players missing the majority of the season so far. Paul George remains out with an elbow injury, there are rumors floating around of him missing the rest of the season, but the team is yet to confirm that. Kawhi Leonard hasn’t played a single game yet, but he could make a comeback if his team makes the playoffs. To make matters worse, two very important players Nicolas Batum and Marcus Morris Sr. are both questionable for tonight’s game, if they are out there could be problems for the Clippers scoring the ball as they account for over 25 points per game. LA is coming off a 130-128 OT loss at Denver, Ivica Zubac had 30 points in that game which was a career high. That was the 4th time in 6 games they were able to cover the spread, they are also 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs East teams.

I’m interested to see if Zubac can slow down Embiid, but even if he does a little, the Clippers are just too shorthanded in this one to hope for anything really. The Sixers are 5-0 SU in the last 5 meetings in Philly and have won 10 of their last 12 games. Back the home team to cover.

Philadelphia 76ers vs LA Clippers Predictions & Odds

I was surprised to see the total set at just 212.5 Points for tonight’s game, especially when these 2 teams have averaged 225.6 points per game in the last 10 meetings. The 3 most recent games have averaged even more at 236.3 per game and the over has cashed two times. LA has been in the top tier in defense all season long, but over their last 2 games they’ve given up 130 and 133 points, plus their last 4 opponents have gone over 100 points easily. There’s just too many injuries to their roster, so they are struggling to have enough bodies on a nightly basis. Philly is coming off a 123 point effort at Orlando and over their last 3 games they are averaging 110 points per game, which is 2.5 points more than their season average.

Joel Embiid is on a historic run scoring 30+ a night every single game. He just had a 50 point explosion against Orlando, against a very thin Clippers team I expect him to dominate once again. The Clippers have also gone over the total in 4 of their last 5 games vs Atlantic Division teams. All in all I’m expecting a high scoring affair here, so let’s back the points.
