Philadelphia 76ers vs Detroit Pistons Predictions

No Tobias Harris, no Ben Simmons, no problem for the 76ers as they are on a 4-game winning streak. The win streak actually started against the Pistons a week ago, Philly also beat a very good Atlanta team, Portland and are coming off an impressive home win over the Chicago Bulls last night. Seth Curry actually led the way with 22 points and 5 rebounds, while Joel Embiid added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists in an all-around effort, despite battling knee soreness. Philadelphia’s main playing card has been defense, they are giving up only 102.9 points so far this season and if they want to beat the Pistons tonight they will have to have another solid display like they did last night when they held the Bulls to just 98 points.

Holding the Pistons to that many points might not be an issue as Detroit is one of the worst teams in the NBA when it comes to scoring. They average just 95.1 points per game and are coming off a pedestrian 89 point effort in their last game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Their leading scorer Jerami Grant is struggling, while the number 1 pick in the draft Cade Cunningham hasn’t shown us just yet how capable of a player he is. Detroit has failed to cover the spread in their last 4 games against teams with a winning record of 60% or higher. They are also 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games against teams with a winning record. If things don’t pick up for them, it could get ugly very fast.

Having won the first meeting of the season in their own gym a week ago by 8-points, I’m really liking Philadelphia in this one. They did play last night against the Bulls, but the Pistons are so bad that it might not actually matter. Detroit has allowed 110 or more points in 4 of their last 5 outings, so let’s back the 76ers to cover the spread tonight.

Nobody on the Pistons averages more than 16.8 points per game and only three players average double digits scoring. They rank dead last in the NBA in field goal percentage at 39.4%, that number goes down to 37.5% in home games. It should come at no surprise that in 13 of their last 20 games the total has gone under. Philadelphia is just better in every aspect possible when it comes to putting the ball into the hoop. They are the number one ranked team in field goal percentage and this is with Joel Embiid struggling to shoot the ball (he says it’s because of the new ball material). The total has trended towards the under in 76ers road games recently with 4 of their last 5 cashing on it. Overall in 10 of their last 12 games the total has gone under, so it’s a pretty good bet to back the under tonight as well.
