Although they’ve exchanged wins and losses over their past 7 games, the 76ers are coming off a big road win over the Cleveland Cavaliers 118-114. Joel Embiid led the way with 35 points and 17 rebounds on his birthday, while James Harden added 21 points and 11 assists.
That’s really good news for Philadelphia as Cleveland looks like a potential opponent in the first round of the playoffs for them if things end the way they are structured currently. However, the Sixers have to keep winning in order to keep that 3rd seed in the East and they are facing a Dallas team that has beaten them 107-98 earlier in the season.
Philly has covered only once in 7 games overall and they are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 at home. However, they do have a solid 6-1 SU record vs teams from the Southwest Division so that’s one reason to be optimistic ahead of tonight’s game.
Dallas has the 2nd best record in the NBA since 2022 started and they are currently on a 3-game win streak following their impressive win at Brooklyn a couple of days ago. Luka Doncic led the way with 37 points, but it was once again Spencer Dinwiddie who drained the game winner for the Mavs who improved to 20-14 SU on the road.
They will be a bit shorthanded in tonight’s game though as Reggie Bullock has been ruled out because of personal reasons. The good news is Doncic’s hamstring is feeling just fine and the Mavs head into tonight’s game with a 6-2 ATS record over their last 8 games vs Philadelphia.
This team has been one of the most reliable when it comes to covering the spread, they’ve done so in 13 of their last 14 games.
Despite the good run by Dallas, I’m still leaning towards Philadelphia here, especially since they are playing at home and will be highly motivated to get revenge for that defeat earlier in the season. They’ll need to find a way to slow down Luka though, so expect Thybulle to have his hands full here. Go with the 76ers at home.
Philadelphia 76ers vs Dallas Mavericks Tip & Odds
I’ve been very impressed with the Dallas defence lately, they’ve held their last 5 opponents to an average of just 102.6 points per game which is one of the best marks in the NBA over that stretch. Together with the 76ers they are at the bottom of the NBA when it comes to pace of play this season averaging just 96.9 possessions per game.
The 76ers are just one spot above them averaging 97.6 per game, so just based on that I think we can expect a lower scoring outcome here. Defensively only 5 teams have a better efficiency on that end of the floor than the Mavericks, while the 76ers also rank at a solid 11th place.
The last 10 head-to-head meetings have averaged 208.4 points per game which is way below tonight’s projected total of 222 points. The under has been the way to go in 7 of those 10 meetings and the 3 most recent have all cashed on that bet. Dallas has gone under in 4 of their last 5 overall and in their last 6 of 7 vs Eastern Conference opponents.
Philly has learned a bit more towards the over since getting Harden, but in their last 10 games played on a Friday they’ve gone under 7 times. With the last 5 of 6 meetings in Philadelphia going under the total, I think that’s the way to go in tonight’s game as well. Back the under.
