Resting James Harden in the game against Miami was a calculated risk and although it didn’t pay off in the short term as Philly lost, Harden came back fresh in the next game as they annihilated the Chicago Bulls at home 121-106.
The Beard had just 16 points, but he added 14 assists to that, a few of them were for teammate Joel Embiid who finished the night with 43 points and 14 rebounds, making another case for MVP honours this season.
With the Nets leading the regular season series 2-1, this game is huge for Philadelphia as playoff seeding is on the line for them. It’s a tight race atop of the Eastern Conference, with a win tonight they can jump back to 2nd place ahead of Milwaukee. Sixers are in really good form with 5 wins in their last 6 home games, plus they’ve covered the spread in 5 of their last 7 overall.
Brooklyn Nets
Speaking of playoff seeding, the Nets improved to 8th place after their win at Charlotte the other night. Kyrie Irving lit up the scoring with 50 points in what was one of the most efficient performances by any players we’ve seen so far this season.
He is eligible to play tonight and with Kevin Durant also back and healthy the Nets team is shaping up to be a real threat in the coming weeks. Ben Simmons unfortunately won’t be playing, but he will be in the building tonight so we can expect a few interactions between him and the Philly fans.
The Nets will also be without LaMarcus Aldridge here as he is out with a hip problem, but other than that they are pretty much good to go. With just 1 win in their last 7 visits to Philly, this is a huge test of character for this team. They’ve covered the spread in 4 of their last 6 against the 76ers, tonight they are a 4.5 point underdog.
In the underdog role the Nets are 9-16 SU this season, but that stat is a bit deceiving as most of the year they’ve played without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant together on the court. Those 2 will have to be on top of their game tonight, I’m still going with the home team here. They’ve also scored 132 and 120 points in their last 2 games and I can definitely see the Sixers allowing more than their 108 points per game average over the past 3 games. The total has gone over in 6 of the last 10 meetings and for Brooklyn that’s been the case in 6 of their last 7 road games and in 11 of their last 14 overall.
The James Harden effect has had Philadelphia go over the total in 6 of 8 games and in 5 of their last 7 against Eastern Conference opponents. Their pace of play has also improved, they are no longer 30th in the NBA, instead they’ve improved to 27th and will continue to rise. With the Nets going over the total 21 times in 34 road games and in 11 of their last 13 vs East teams, I think backing the over is a no-brainer here.
