Beating the Washington Wizards 109-103 on Monday was a big deal for the Charlotte Hornets. Not only are they back in 5th place in the Eastern Conference standings with an 11-8 record, but they’ve also proven to themselves they are capable of beating teams who they are fighting for one of the top 4 spots in the East this season. Terry Rozier scored 32, including 8 threes, while LaMelo Ball added 28 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. As a team the Hornets were able to hold the Wizards to just 38% shooting from the field and 25% from three point land. With the win Charlotte has now covered the spread in 6 of their last 7 games and they’re doing all this without the services of P.J. Washington who has played only 2 games so far in November. He could make a comeback at some point this week, as he recovers from an elbow injury.
Orlando Magic
Speaking of injuries, the Orlando Magic have a ton of experience on that front this season. Right now they have 3 players that will miss tonight’s game and another 3 that are questionable. The most important among those 6 players is Cole Anthony and sadly for them he won’t be able to play tonight as his ankle injury still hasn’t healed. Without him against the Bucks last time out the Magic lost 123-92, the highest point man among the starters was Mychal Mulder with 13 points. Rookie Jalen Suggs also struggled mightily, he played just 17 minutes and went 2-for-8 from the field for just 5 points. Orlando has just 1 win in their last 7 games, they’ve not done well at all against the Hornets lately. They’ve lost 8 of 10 at home against them.
Charlotte has had it’s ups and downs this season, but they are hitting good form at just the right time and against a struggling Orlando team it’s really hard to pick against them. They have 15 wins in the last 20 meetings, I’m backing them to cover in this one.

Even with a healthy Cole Anthony the Magic are among the worst offensive teams in the NBA. They have only the 27th highest offensive rating in the entire league and only 3 teams have a worse effective field goal percentage than they do. They are also the worst scoring home team in the NBA by far with an average of 94.9 points per game, which is almost 5 points less than the next team. Against the Bucks they managed just 92 points last time out, I have a feeling they’ll struggle once again tonight against the Hornets. Charlotte’s 112.2 points per game ranks 3rd in the league only behind Utah and Golden State. They’ve been in solid scoring form and have put up 100+ points in 4 of their last 5 games. This team has 4 scorers capable of exploding at any time among their starting line-up. I think they’ll score enough to push us over the total in this one.
