Not a lot of people expected a 23-point loss heading into the game against the Chicago Bulls on Monday night, but here we are. Kevin Durant had himself a great game with 38 points, but nobody else stepped up when it mattered as the Bulls scored a whopping 42 points in the 4th quarter. James Harden continued his struggles as he finished with just 14 points on 4-for-11 shooting and Nets fans are wondering when they will see the Beard back in his optimal form. The good news for Brooklyn is they respond well after losses, they are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after failing to cover the spread. Interestingly enough though, they haven’t had much luck against the Magic in recent games beating them just 5 times in the last 10 meetings and covering the spread on 3 occasions.
Orlando Magic
Orlando pulled off a shocker in their last game at home against the West leading Utah Jazz. In a game of many runs they were able to rally past the Jazz and put 32 points behind them in the 4th quarter for a 107-100 win. It was their first home win of the season and they have Cole Anthony to thank for it as he dropped 33 points in that game. One impressive stat that jumps out from that game is Utah’s three-point shooting as the Magic held them to just 19% on the night. We have to be realistic though, wins like that will be rare this season as this team doesn’t really have much talent to compete, but flukes are always possible. In their last 16 home games this team has covered the spread just 3 times, which is very telling ahead of tonight’s game.
This will primarily be a bounce back game from James Harden who has disappointed the Nets fans quite a few times this season. Going up against a young Magic side, I think he will have a much better showing considering they don’t really have any serious perimeter defenders that could stop him. Think the Nets win by double digits in this one.

If the Nets want to win this game, they will have to do it on the defensive end. Granted, the Magic are nowhere near as talented as the Chicago Bulls team they faced last time out which put 118 points past them. Brooklyn’s defense has been stellar this year, they rank 4th in opposing field goal percentage at just 42.7%. They also do a good job defending the perimeter, opponents are connecting on just 31.8% from downtown against them which ranks 6th in the NBA. The total has also gone under in 6 of their last 7 away games. You can make a similar case for the Magic here as well, they are just one slot behind the Nets in defending the three-point line, so if you take that away from both teams that removes a decent chunk of their totals. The last 4 Magic games have all gone under the total, so let’s hope that trend continues tonight.
