The Oregon Ducks are on top of Pac-12 as they won the first two games of the season.
The Ducks opened the season with a 83-66 win over the Texas Southern Tigers. It wasn’t a great shooting night for the Ducks as they shot only 40% from the field and 33.3% from the three-point line but they moved the ball well recording 15 assists, 8 more than the Tigers.
Senior guard Will Richardson was the top scorer with 20 points, shooting 4-8 from behind the arc. Junior guard De’Vion Harmon added 15 points while senior Jacob Young had 14 for the Ducks, who led by as many as 23 points in the second half.
The score was pretty similar in the Ducks’ second win of the season as they defeated the SMU Mustangs 86-63. It was a much better shooting night for coach Dana Altman’s team as they had 51.6% from the field and 45% from the three-point line but missed 10 of their 21 free throws.
The Ducks dominated the boards with 39, 12 more than their opponent.
Senior forward Eric Williams Jr. led Oregon with 19 points and five rebounds while Will Richardson and Jacob Young each scored 18 points. Junior college transfer Rivaldo Soares had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Ducks look excellent at the start of the season but still a major issue for is the absence of the 6-foot-11 center N’Faly Dante who is still a month away from a return after an ACL injury.
BYU Cougars Stats & Form
The BYU Cougars also opened the season with two wins but had a much tougher job than the Ducks.
In their first game, they defeated Cleveland State 69-59 led by senior Alex Barcello who had 24 points with only one miss and perfect 12-out-of-12 from the stripe. Spencer Johnson added 13 points for BYU while Caleb Lohner had seven points and nine rebounds.
Barcello was the key man in the next one as well as he scored 17 points to lead his team to a 66-60 win over San Diego State Aztecs. He hit 3 of the team’s only 4 three-pointers in the match but somehow that was enough for a win. Te’yon Lucas was the only other player scoring in double-digits with 13 points but only 2-12 from the field.
BYU Cougars News
This will be the first real test for Mark pope’s squad this season and they seem ready for it. Alex Barcello is averaging 20.5 points for the season and the Ducks defense will have a tough time to hold him under.
