It took much more effort than we thought it would, but the Brooklyn Nets took care of business against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. James Harden had a season high 39 points and 12 assists, Kevin Durant added 28 of his own as the Pelicans won 120-112. Despite the 112 points allowed, Brooklyn’s defense has been their calling card this season. They currently rank 9th in the NBA in points allowed and they’ve managed to hold 2 of their last 5 opponents to under 100 points. As far as injuries go, they’ve been pretty healthy so far this season. For tonight’s game though they will be without Paul Millsap who is dealing with some personal issues. Nic Claxton has been ruled out with an illness a couple of games ago. The Nets could use those two as they’ve won just once in their last 5 visits to Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City Thunder
If you’ve backed Oklahoma City to cover the spread in their last 5 games, then congrats you’ve made some money. The Thunder have covered in all 5 of those games against pretty solid opposition too. They faced the Clippers, Lakers, Spurs, Pelicans and Kings and are currently on a 4-game win streak. They currently occupy 10th place in the Western Conference and if the season ended today they would be in the play-in tournament, something that not a lot of people expected before the season started. The most impressive part in all this, the Thunder are winning all those games despite being ranked 2nd worst in offensive efficiency this season.
KD returning to the place where he spent his first 10 season is always a fun game, tonight should be no different with the way the two teams have been playing recently. Oddsmakers favor the Nets by 9 points here, I feel like that is a bit too much considering OKC is 3-2 at home and riding a 4-game win streak. I’ll back the home team to cover the spread here, but Brooklyn should get the win.

This will be a battle between the 10th fastest and 13th fastest offense in the NBA this season. The Nets are coming off a 120-point effort against the Pelicans, which was their 2nd game in a row in which they’ve scored 120 or more points. OKC has also been efficient on the offensive end, they’ve gone over the 100-point mark three times during their 4-game win streak. Brooklyn is known for their stellar defense, however in away games they allow 7 points more than they do at home, so the Thunder should take advantage of that. Looking at recent head-to-head meetings the last 3 games between these two produced an average of 243.6 points per game and if we expand that to the last 10 games we get an average of 225 per game. Both numbers would clear the total over by more than 10 points, I think we’ll be in for a fun and entertaining high scoring game here, with the Nets coming out on top in a close one. Give me the over.
