New Orleans Pelicans
Despite the Pelicans winning their last game against the Houston Rockets, many people are expecting them to regress a bit following the news of Zion Williamson missing at least 3 weeks after injuring his hamstring. With Brandon Ingram already being out for the past 18 games, and the various knocks to Larry Nance Jr., Willy Hernangomez and Herbert Jones it’s a real miracle that the Pelicans are 3rd in the loaded Western Conference.
One of the reasons why they’re so high up is their home record which stands at 17-4, one of the best marks in the NBA. They’ve won their last 5 on their home court, however in games against teams from the Atlantic Division they haven’t fared well winning just 5 of 19 games. C.J. McCollum just recently broke the record for most threes in a game for a Pelican, he will now take over the reigns completely on offense with all these injuries.
The Brooklyn Nets win streak was finally stopped in their last game, a 121-112 defeat at Chicago. Kevin Durant was on fire scoring 44 points on 15-for-22 shooting, Kyrie Irving and Seth Curry each went over 20 points, but it still wasn’t enough for the Nets who had won 12 in a row prior to that game. Just like the Pelicans, they too are in 3rd place in their conference, playing the sort of basketball people expected them to play over the past 2 seasons when they first acquired their big 3. Tonight is a great opportunity to start a new streak against a Pelicans side they’ve beaten 7 times in the last 8 meetings. This team is 7-1 SU in their last 8 on the road and if we expand that to their last 11 overall they’ve covered the spread 8 times. They’re in much better shape injury wise, only T.J. Warren is questionable after leaving the last game after taking a hit to his ribs.
The loss at Chicago was a minor bump in the road. Brooklyn enters tonight’s game as 4-point favorites against a heavily shorthanded Pelicans side. They’ve owned the head-to-head record for a while now, I can definitely see them getting the win here. Back Brooklyn as the road favorite.
New Orleans Pelicans vs Brooklyn Nets Predictions & Odds
The match-up between these two teams has been one of the highest scoring in the NBA over the past 10 contests. An average of 242.2 points per game has been scored during that stretch, with 10 of their last 12 games finishing over the total. In games played at Smoothie King Center the O/U record is 14-1 in the past 15 meetings, so it’s fair to say we are in for a ton of points here. Brooklyn’s win streak has lifted them up all the way to 3rd in offensive efficiency, they score an average of 114.8 points per 100 possessions. The Pelicans aren’t far behind in 6th averaging 112.8 points. The home team is 10th in pace of play this season, I think they will be the ones dictating the tempo here, as that’s their only chance of getting a win against a superior Nets squad. Don’t expect to see a lot of defense here, take the points.
