Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota TimberwolvesMinnesota did what they were supposed to get the split over the first 2 games in Memphis, but now the pressure is on them to deliver at home and maintain their hold on home court advantage. Game 2 was a night to forget, especially for D’Angelo Russell who once again disappointed with just 11 points scored on 3-for-11 shooting.

That is concerning if you are the Timberwolves, he’s averaged over 30 points per game in 4 regular season meetings vs the Grizzlies, but somehow he hasn’t figured it out yet in this series. Anthony Edwards has been consistent, but tonight he is playing in his first-ever home playoff game, so I’m interested to see how he reacts. Minnesota does have a 27-15 SU record in home games this season, however against the Grizzlies they’ve covered just twice in the last 7 meetings at Target Center.

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis GrizzliesBenching Steven Adams in Game 2 proved to be the adjustment the Grizzlies needed to do in order to get one over Minnesota. Adams had 2 fouls early and was benched the rest of the game, it resulted in a higher pace for Memphis and their opponent just couldn’t keep up. I’m expecting a similar approach tonight as well, because why change something when it’s giving you results? Ja Morant was also playing well with 23 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds, but overall it was a team effort that got Memphis the 28 points win.

In total 7 players scored in double figures, while as a team they turned the ball over just 9 times compared to 19 by Minnesota. A similar effort like that on defence will get the job done tonight as well, but what is concerning if you are a Memphis fan is that they’ve lost both meetings in Minnesota during the regular season – once by 43 points and once by 5 points.

Despite the effort put in by Minnesota so far, Memphis is clearly the better team here and we saw that on full display in Game 2. On the road, this team has been one of the most consistent in the NBA covering 25 of 41 games, plus at Target Center they are 5-2 ATS in their last 7. I think they’re good enough to win by more than 3 points tonight, so let’s back the road team to cover here.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Memphis Grizzlies Predictions & Odds

Suffocating defence by Memphis was a direct result of why Minnesota turned the ball over 19 times in Game 2. They shot the ball poorly at under 40% from the field and just 28% from three-point land, which is very uncharacteristic for one of the highest scoring teams we have in the NBA. They play at the fastest pace averaging 103.5 possessions per game, Memphis isn’t far behind with 103.1 per game. The total has been set for 236.5 points, so that would mean we would have to have both teams put up almost 120 points in order for that bet to land.

That number has been surpassed just twice in the 6 meetings so far during the regular season and playoffs, while over the last 10 meetings an average of 235.8 points per game have been scored. The total has cashed on the under twice in the 3 latest meetings, I think that could be the way things go in tonight’s game as well.

Memphis has a tendency of going under the total in road games, that’s happened now 4 times in their last 5 games. The Timberwolves are 20-22 on the O/U at Target Center this season, I don’t think they’ll have an answer for the Memphis defence in tonight’s game. Let’s back the under.
