After winning 10 of their last 11 games, the Minnesota Timberwolves have now suffered back-to-back losses against Dallas and Phoenix which has put a dent in their ambitions of trying to get the 6th seed. The Denver Nuggets are 1 game ahead of them, so not everything is lost, but these remaining 8 games will be must-win games for the T’Wolves.
Having lost to Dallas already twice this season, tonight’s game will be a huge character test for this team. They’ve been pretty solid at home lately covering the spread in 6 of their last 7 games, plus against Western Conference opponents they are 8-2 SU in the last 10 games. The biggest worry ahead of this game is the status of Karl-Anthony Towns who is questionable with a forearm injury, but according to the latest reports, he should be able to go.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks are in a similar spot with the same record as the Utah Jazz who are in front of them for the 4th seed in the West. Getting home-court advantage in the 1st round would be big for this team as they’ve failed to do so in the last couple of seasons. Luka Doncic is expected back in the line-up after resting against Houston, his teammates got the job done by 19 points as Jalen Brunson had himself a game with 28 points.
Davis Bertans will miss tonight’s game with a knee issue, that puts a dent into the Mavs three-point shooting a bit. They won’t miss him too much though as they’ve gone 10-3 SU in their last 13 games and are currently on an 8-game win streak vs Western Conference opponents. I am expecting Doncic to have a big game here, he had only 15 points in the 1 game played against the Timberwolves so far this season.
The 3 meetings so far this season were decided by 2, 12 and 6 points and with both teams being in fine form this game could go either way. I’m actually leaning towards the home team here, they’ll be fired up to get revenge for that loss suffered a few days ago. Minnesota is 24-13 SU at Target Center, one of the best marks in the NBA.
