It was a dream game for Karl-Anthony Towns against San Antonio on Monday as he became the first center since Shaquille O’Neal to drop 60 points in a game as he led his Timberwolves to a 149-139 win over San Antonio.
That also set a new franchise record and an NBA season high by any player, until Kyrie Irving tied that last night. Still, KAT will be proud of himself as he often gets forgotten in the debate for best big men in the NBA. His Timberwolves are currently 7th in the standings and just 1.5 games back from Denver for the 6th spot and an automatic playoff berth.
I am liking their chances vs the Lakers tonight, they’ve beaten them in 8 of the last 9 meetings in Minnesota. Against Western Conference teams they are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers are coming off another embarrassing home loss against the Toronto Raptors. Although the final score might indicate the game was close, it really wasn’t as LA fell behind by 17 points in the first quarter and the outcome was pretty much decided.
LeBron had another solid game with 30 points and 9 rebounds, he is just 75 points away from leaping over Karl Malone for 2nd place on the all-time scoring list. More importantly though the Lakers have one of the toughest schedules remaining in the NBA and with the New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers being just 1.5 and 2.5 games behind, things could get tricky down the line and the Lakers might not even make the postseason.
They’ve won just 2 of their last 10 games and are currently on a 10-game road losing streak. Dwight Howard and LeBron James are both questionable for tonight’s game, I just can’t see the Lakers getting anything out of this one.
LA is just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 vs Western Conference opponents, while Minnesota is one of the hottest teams in the NBA with 12 wins in 14 home games.
