Giannis Antetokounmpo has been on a tear lately and has the league on notice that he too should be included in the MVP talks. Over his last 5 games the Greek Freak is averaging 37-4 points, 13.8 rebounds and shooting over 61% from the field and an astonishing 44% from three. Granted, the schedule wasn’t the toughest during that 5-game win streak, tonight’s opponent the Clippers might be the Bucks’ biggest test in the last several weeks.
The two teams have split the last 10 meetings, however Milwaukee has asserted it’s dominance against Western Conference teams lately winning 6 of 7 games. They are also 6-1 SU in 7 home games, they’re doing all this without two key rotation players in Serge Ibaka and Bobby Portis. Khris Middleton is back though and ramping up his production as we approach the all star break.
Los Angeles Clippers
On the Clippers side of things they’ll be without John Wall and most likely Marcus Morris who is questionable with a rib injury. They just beat a feisty Bulls side on the road 108-103, behind 33 points from Kawhi Leonard. Paul George also chipped in with 16 and 10 boards, while Norman Powell added 27 off the bench.
Kawhi hasn’t faced Giannis in a game since 2021, so I’m interested to see how that match-up goes. The Clippers have struggled as underdogs this season, winning just 7 of 21 games. They are on a solid run in road games though winning 5 of 6. One alarming stat ahead of tonight’s game is the Clippers three-point defense, they are allowing 46.4% of shots from the perimeter over their last 3 games.
I’m going to have to side with the Bucks here. They are a veteran team, so they’ll know how to make the most out of that last stat I mentioned. Giannis is playing at an MVP level, I just don’t see how the Clippers contain him here. Take Milwaukee at home.
