It’s been smooth sailing in the opening 2 games of the season for the Bucks even though they are without their 2nd best player Khris Middleton who is still out recovering from hand surgery. They came out on top against Philadelphia in their season opener on the road which they followed up with an impressive 125-105 home win over Houston the other day. Giannis Antetokounmpo posted a historic stat line in the win as he went for 44 points and 12 rebounds on 17-for-21 shooting from the field in just 28 minutes played.
Three other Bucks players scored in double figures, so the Greek Freak is getting enough help from his teammates. If the Bucks want to stay competitive in tonight’s game that’ll have to continue, they are 7-3 SU in the last 10 meetings against the Nets, but past results won’t guarantee a positive outcome in tonight’s game.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets are slowly transitioning into life with Ben Simmons as one of their starters and so far it hasn’t panned out the way they hoped it would. After Monday’s 134-124 loss at Memphis they are 1-2 on the season and are yet to win a road game. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving each did their thing scoring 37 in the loss, but the focus of the media was on Ben Simmons yet again as he fouled out for the 2nd time in 3 games after posting a mediocre 7 points and 8 assists while taking just 5 shots from the field.
His confidence is clearly still shook and until he sorts that out the Nets could fall into a hole early on in the season. This team has just 1 win over the last 6 meetings with the Bucks and they ‘ve won only once in 5 attempts on the road overall. After allowing 130 points both against the Pelicans and Grizzlies, they could be in trouble tonight in Milwaukee.
The Bucks are 3.5 favorites here and I’d say that is accurately priced given what we saw so far this season from both teams. Two of the three wins in the regular season last year were by more than 4 points, my gut tells me we’ll see another dominant performance tonight. Usually the team that plays better on defense wins games like this and that is clearly the Bucks here, so let’s back the home squad.

Interestingly enough the O/U numbers are in favor of the under with a 2-7-1 record over the past 10 meetings, which could be in part because the oddsmakers have been setting the total at a very high number. Milwaukee does own the best defense in the NBA allowing just 96.5 points per game, so I’m curious to see how the Nets handle that tonight. Not having Khris Middleton hasn’t been a problem so far, but from past experience that has to come back to bite them eventually.
He is a 20+ point per game scorer and someone who goes head-to-head with Kevin Durant whenever these two teams play, so the Bucks could finally feel his absence here. Brooklyn will also be without Seth Curry and Markieff Morris, I think it’s time head coach Steve Nash finally puts some emphasis on defending here, as come playoff time this team won’t go far unless they change their habits. With an average of 217.3 points per game scored in the last 10 meetings, I think backing the under is the way to go here.
