Miami Heat

Miami HeatAfter their 99-82 home win over the Philadelphia 76ers, the Miami Heat are in a prime position to finish the season as the number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. The win gives them a 3 game advantage atop of the standings and with the way this team is playing right now it’s hard to see them slipping up.

The defence has been the staple of this team for years and that showed in the win over the Sixers as they held them to just 34% shooting from the field and 17% from downtown. Big man Bam Adebayo scored just 6 points in the win, but that didn’t matter as Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro each had 21 to lead the way.

The Heat are now 11-2 SU in their last 13 games, at home they’ve won 16 of 19 games and in the last 10 meetings with Houston they’ve covered in 8 of them.

Houston Rockets

Houston RocketsThe Rockets shocked the world last night with a 123-112 home win over the Memphis Grizzlies, despite entering the game as 11-point underdogs. A total of 3 starters scored 20 or more points as Kevin Porter Jr. led the way with 29, while Christian Wood had 28 and 13 rebounds and Jalen Green finished with 24 and 8 boards.

It was their first win in 13 games, ending one of the longest losing streaks in the entire NBA this season. The win didn’t do much for their overall standings though as they remain dead last in the West with just 16 wins and 48 losses, 4 games back of the OKC Thunder in 14th place.

With a 0-8 SU record in their last 8 games and a 2-9 ATS record in their last 11 vs Eastern Conference opponents, it’s hard to imagine them getting anything out of tonight’s game at Miami.

Kyle Lowry won’t play here, but the Heat are almost used to not having them in the line-up these days. That shouldn’t be much of an issue, this Heat defense has been bullet proof lately, so I’m expecting them to shut down these young and inexperienced Rockets. Back the home team here.

Miami Heat vs Houston Rockets Predictions & Odds

Just 214.7 points per game have been averaged over the last 10 meetings between these 2 teams and the under has cashed 6 times during that stretch. The Rockets have gone under the total in 5 of their last 6 games overall and in 6 of their last 7 visits to South Beach.

However, I think all that changes tonight as the inexperienced Rockets will speed things up here. In the first meeting between the two teams this season we saw 230 points scored. Miami has a habit of going over the total in games vs Western Conference opponents, that’s now happened 14 times in the last 20 such games and for the season they are 16-13 on the O/U in home games and 38-27 overall.

Houston has also finished more times over the total than under as their record stands at 35-28-1 this season. Over their last 5 games the Heat did have 2 high scoring games, with the Bucks putting 120 and the Spurs 129 on them.

Houston played last night against Memphis, plus they had to travel to get to Miami for tonight’s game, so we could see some tired legs out there on the defensive side of the floor. Expect the Heat to take full advantage of that and fill up the stat sheet here. Back the points.
