Miami Heat
Miami celebrated a much needed 8-point win on Saturday after a stellar defensive effort in which they held Trae Young to just 8 points on 2-for-13 shooting and Dejounte Murray to 10 points on 3-for-14. Bam Adebayo rallied the troops with his stellar play, finishing with 30 points and 11 boards.
It was a much needed win for the Heat as they now have a 1.5 game advantage over the Hawks in the standings, giving themselves a bit of breathing room in the 7th seed. Over the last 10 meetings they are now 7-3 SU against Atlanta, while also beating them in 6 straight at home. In tonight’s rematch the Heat are once again favorites by 3 points, so it promises to be an entertaining game.
Atlanta Hawks
This wasn’t the first time Young has struggled when playing in Miami. For a player that relies heavily on three point shooting to not see the first couple of shots go in can be demoralizing and that’s exactly what happened over the weekend. This is a bounce back opportunity for the Hawks, but with just 1 win in their last 5 vs Miami I’m not sure their fans are hoping for much out of tonight’s game.
Eastern Conference teams have covered the spread 7 times in the last 8 games vs Atlanta, reversing that trend will be vital for new head coach Quinn Snyder if his team intends on making noise in the postseason. There are no injuries on the Hawks roster, so they have that working for them here.
I really though the Hawks stood a chance on Saturday, but boy was I proven wrong. With Young and Murray going ice cold shooting the ball, it’s hard to expect anything against a well oiled machine like the Heat are. Back Miami in this one.
Miami Heat vs Atlanta Hawks Predictions & Odds
Defense is what got Miami the victory in the last 2 wins over the Hawks, and that will be their recipe for success tonight as well. The under has landed 8 times in the last 10 meetings between these two teams with just 213.8 points per game averaged during that stretch. For Miami the under has cashed in 4 of 5 games, I think their defensive numbers are only going to improve as we enter the final 15 games or so of the season.
They are among the slowest teams in the league, averaging just 98.2 possessions per game. Atlanta does like to push the tempo from time to time, but on they’re way worse on offense in road games compared to home games. I think the Heat put the clamps down once again here and hold the Hawks under 105 points. Let’s go with the under.
