Tempers flared the last time these two teams played each other as the Grizz dropped one on the road 122-121. That game was a turning point in the season of Memphis as it all kind of went down from there. In 14 games played since, they have just 5 wins and 9 losses. Granted, injuries did play a part in all those games as Steven Adams also went out of the line-up, leaving a huge gap in the middle of the floor for them.
Despite all that though, they are 3.5 point favorites in tonight’s game, but after seeing them cover the spread in just 4 of their last 13 games vs Western Conference opponents, I am not feeling all that confident in them. Playing at home might give them the much needed edge though as they are 25-5 SU in 30 played at FedEx Forum which is one of the best marks in the NBA.
Los Angeles Lakers
Over the weekend the Lakers played one of their best games of the season as they beat the Dallas Mavericks 111-108 on the road. The game was marked by a 27-point comeback, but also by Lebron James injuring his right foot which could keep him out of the line-up for an extended period of time.
This season the Lakers are just 5-9 SU in 14 games without the King, which tells you what kind of importance he has for head coach Darvin Ham. Against tonight’s opponent, the Lakers are 8-4 SU in the last 12 meetings and having won 4 of 6 games on the road with Anthony Davis playing like his old self, they might actually steal one here. The status of D’Angelo Russell is also up in the air as he recovers from an ankle injury, he is listed as doubtful by the coaching staff.
As much as I like what I’m seeing from the Lakers, losing two starters to injuries is a tough task to overcome, especially when you’re facing an elite home team like the Grizz. It might be a tight finish, but Memphis should be able to win this one. They just dominated the best team in the West at home by 18 points. Grizz to cover.

The defense of the Lakers has improved significantly since the trade deadline, so even if we do have the 2nd and 3rd fastest teams in the NBA going at it here, I think the under is worth a look. Memphis ranks number one in defensive efficiency allowing just 107.1 points per 100 possessions, we just witnessed the best offense in the NBA fail to crack 100 points against them at FedEx Forum so don’t be surprised if the Lakers also struggle scoring here.
Head-to-head records also favor the under here, that bet has cashed in the last 9 meetings between the two teams in this building and in 7 of the last 10 overall with an average of just 215.8 points per game. LA has gone under in 5 of 6 overall, including this weekend in Dallas. Memphis is 3-12 on the O/U in their last 15 so I think things are pretty clear here, expect a lower scoring game and back the under.
