Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City ThunderThe Thunder have officially hit their low point of the season after back-to-back losses to the worst team in the NBA the Houston Rockets. First they lost by 13 at Houston and then they followed it up last night with a 4-point home loss. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander put up 39 points in the loss last night and as a team the Thunder scored their 2nd highest point total of the season. However, the loss really hurt them as the Rockets were without their best player Christian Wood for the majority of the game and they couldn’t take advantage. Their next 3 games are all on the road where they have a 2-8 record on the season. It’ll be a tricky game against a Memphis side they’ve beaten just once in the last 5 meetings and have gone 1-7 ATS in the last 8 head-to-head.

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis GrizzliesMemphis is doing quite well considering they are playing without their best player Ja Morant who is out with a knee injury. They’ve won 2 games in a row against Sacramento and Toronto and have improved to 11-10 on the season. In Morant’s absence Jaren Jackson Jr. stepped up with 25 and Desmond Bane added 23, however as a team the Grizzlies shot just 38% in the win over Toronto. If they want to get another win tonight they will once again have to rely on their defense like they did vs the Raptors. Right now Memphis ranks bottom of the NBA with the worst defensive rating in the league. The Grizz have covered in 4 of 5 vs Western Conference opponents and against the Thunder they’ve won 2 of the last 3 meetings.

It’s been a rough stretch for the Thunder, but favoring Memphis by 10 points here is a bit too much in my opinion. All losing streaks have to end at some point, OKC is relatively healthy and they could take advantage of Morant’s absence here, so let’s back them and the extra points.

OKC Thunder +9.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

Although the Thunder rank only 29th in the NBA in offensive efficiency, they are going up against probably the worst defensive squad in the league this season. Memphis is allowing 114.4 points per game this season, at home that number is at 114.8 per game. They have done well in their past two games, but you can’t erase an entire season of bad habits in just two nights. At FedEx Forum 8 of the last 12 Grizzlies games have gone over the total, including the last 5 in a row. In head-to-head meetings we are at 6-4 on the O/U, with the last 3 in a row going over the total. In those 3 games the two teams have averaged 236 points per game and shot almost 50% from the field. I think we are in for a high scoring game here, so let’s back the over.
