Los Angeles Clippers

Los Angeles ClippersAfter a minor slip-up at home against the Chicago Bulls, the LA Clippers bounced straight back up and won their next game against the San Antonio Spurs. Paul George scored 34, Reggie Jackson added 21 and the Clippers held the Spurs to just 43% shooting from the field and 22% from three-point land. Defense has been the trademark of this team, they currently own the 2nd best defensive rating in the NBA and are allowing the 5th lowest mark of points at 102.5 per game. Those numbers will get tested tonight, as they could be without a couple of rotation players due to injuries. Nicolas Batum has an Achilles issue and is doubtful, Terrence Mann is questionable with an ankle problem, while both Marcus Morris and Justise Winslow are officially out. Even without them though, the Clippers come into this game as the favorites.

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis GrizzliesThe reason why they are favorites? Well, the Memphis Grizzlies haven’t been so good as of late. They are coming off a 136-102 win over Houston, but before that they had lost three straight and looked way out of shape. Ja Morant had 22 points, 6 boards and 6 assists in the win and Memphis once again showed they are one of the better offensive teams in the NBA. Right now they rank 7th averaging 109.9 points per game, however when you combine that with only the 29th best ranked defense you won’t get as many wins as you think. The Grizzlies have only 2 wins in their last 6 games, they’ve also gone 2-4 ATS during that stretch of games. However, they did beat the Clippers already once this season when the two teams met at Staples Center back in October.

Paul George had 41 points in that game and you can bet he hasn’t forgotten the way his team lost that game. Tonight is a new opportunity to get revenge though and the Clippers are in much better shape then their opponent is. I’m leaning slightly towards LA in this one, so let’s back George and co. to cover the spread.

LA Clippers -1.0 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

The Grizzlies’ leaky defense has allowed 102, 112, 119, 118 and 118 points over their last 5 contests. They allow 113.5 points per game while their opponents are shooting 47.1% from the field, which is the 3rd highest mark in the NBA. The game played earlier this season saw a total of 234 points scored, which is a bit over what they two teams are averaging in their last 10 meetings (221.4 points). With Memphis playing at the 7th fastest pace in the NBA right now, you’d think a team like the Clippers would know how to take advantage of that. They average 108.8 points per game in their road games this season and in their last 4 wins they’ve scored 106, 129, 112 and 117 points. The first game of the season showed us the Grizzlies simply don’t have an answer for George here, so if PG has it going early we could once again witness a high scoring affair. Let’s back the over.
