Los Angeles Lakers
LA actually lost the first meeting of the season in Toronto 126-113, back in early December. However, this current iteration is vastly different than the one that got blown out in Canada 3 months ago. LeBron James is currently out of the line-up, as he recovers from a foot injury. That’s actually had a positive impact on the team, especially on the defensive end as the Lakers rank 1st in defensive rating over their last 10 games.
Good things will happen when you play defense, especially when your best player Anthony Davis is avoiding injuries and putting up numbers. AD had 30 points and 22 rebounds in the home win over Memphis a couple of days ago, momentum is definitely on the Lakers side here as they look to win a 4th game in 5 nights. There’s also positive news on the injury front with the possibility of D’Angelo Russell returning from an ankle injury.
Toronto is struggling a bit at the moment having lost 3 of 4 games. Starting point guard Fred VanVleet made headlines the other day as he blasted the officials for a poor job in their last game against the Clippers, which they lost 108-100. The league did issue a fine, but now the question remains will VanVleet’s words have a lingering effect on how the Raptors will be treated by the officials moving forward.
At 12-22 SU they’re one of the worst teams in the East on the road this season, so even if they did win by 13 when these two teams met back in December, they’re 1-point underdogs in tonight’s game. Toronto has just 1 win in 5 road games, they’ve also covered the spread just twice in their last 8 games vs Atlantic Division opponents.
It’s always smart to roll with the more in-form team. The Lakers are certainly that if we look at their last 8 games, 6 of which they’ve won while covering the spread. They’re 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs Eastern Conference teams, I think that positive run continues tonight. Back LA at home.
Los Angeles Lakers vs Toronto Raptors Blazers Predictions & Odds
I can’t see this game being anything similar to the first meeting of the season which saw 239 points scored. The defenses of both teams have improved significantly, especially the Lakers ever since they traded away Russell Westbrook and LeBron James went out of the line-up with an injury. One thing these two teams have in common offensively and that is their lack of three-point shooting.
They’re both in the bottom 5 in three-point percentage, without that it’s hard to expect a ton of points in tonight’s game. The total has landed on the under 7 times in the last 8 Lakers games, including their last 6 in a row at home. With just 224 points averaged between them in the last 10 games head-to-head, I think these two teams will be lucky to reach 220 points combined tonight. Back the under.
