LA has lost both meetings against the Suns earlier this season by double-digits so tonight’s game promises to be a challenge. Even when they’re playing at home, the Suns have had their number winning 4 of the last 5 meetings, so the Lakers cannot afford to relax any bit here. They knocked down 13 threes in the 5 point win over Orlando the other night, with Austin Reaves scoring a career high 35 points.
They’ll need way more than that tonight though, players like Anthony Davis must dominate in order for the Lakers to stand a chance here. They are just 5-15 SU in their last 20 games vs Pacific Division opponents. There’s still no update on the status of LeBron James, but we might see him come back at some point next week according to rumors.
Phoenix Suns
Phoenix is also waiting on the return of a superstar of their own as Kevin Durant continues to rehab his twisted ankle. Joining him on the sidelines for this game will also be Deandre Ayton who has a hip issue, so it’ll be up to Chris Paul and Devin Booker to carry the offense here once again. That wasn’t very successful in the loss to Oklahoma City over the weekend, despite Booker scoring 46 points.
Ever since trading away Mikal Bridges the defense has suffered, Phoenix no longer has a lock down defender they can use on opposing wings. Despite all that they’re still 2 point favorites over the Lakers, and are currently on a 9-game win streak in regular season games. They’ve also covered in 4 of their last 5 visits to LA and in 8 of those 9 victories.
It’s going to be a tight game, I am convinced in that. The Lakers need the win badly here, so I think they’ll pull it out somehow. Expect Davis to dominated with Ayton out of the game, back the home team to cover.
