For the 2nd time in this series the Lakers were held under 100 points as they dropped Game 5 on the road 116-99. It was a very uncharacteristic performance by LeBron James who scored only 15 points on 5-for-17 shooting and 1-for-9 from three, turning the ball over 5 times. Even he admitted himself at the post game press conference that he needs to be better, and he’s right.
The Lakers are not closing out the Grizzlies tonight if he plays like that again. The Lakers have a pretty good track record in home games lately winning their last 5, plus against the Grizzlies they are 8-1 SU in their last 9. Anthony Davis putting up 31 points in Game 5 was also encouraging for LA, they’ll need at least 25 and 12 from him in tonight’s game.
Memphis Grizzlies
Being on the brink of elimination brought out the best from these Grizzlies as Desmond Bane dropped 33 and Ja Morant added 31 and 10 rebounds. Now they have to do it again on the road where they haven’t had the best of times this season going just 16-25 SU and losing both games so far in this series.
It’s also been revealed that Luke Kennard has a shoulder injury which will keep him out of tonight’s game as he left the game against the Lakers and did not return. He joins Steven Adams and Brandon Clark who are already sidelined, so the Grizzlies are dealing with quite a few issues coming into this game. They’ve also covered the spread just once in 6 games overall and have only 1 victory in their last 8 vs the Lakers at crypto.com Arena.
It’s do or die time for Morant and his young Grizzlies. This team isn’t the most experienced, but they’ve had a couple of playoff battles in the previous 2 years. The Lakers scored just 93 and 99 points in the 2 losses in the series, that’s a clear indicator of what works well against them. Anthony Davis has struggled in a couple of games in this series already, shutting him down would do wonders for the Grizzlies here.
The under has cashed 4 times in their last 6 games, while on the road they are just 3-7 on the O/U in games played on a Friday. LA has gone under in 9 of 13 games vs Southwest Division opponents, the currently have a 19-25 record on the O/U for the regular season and playoffs.
