Los Angeles Lakers
All the talk surrounding the Lakers ahead of Friday’s game is Anthony Davis and his availability. After getting hit in the head late in Game 5, it appeared that Davis suffered a concussion, but luckily that wasn’t the case and the Lakers will be at full strength here. Not having AD would be a massive blow for this team, especially since he’s finally playing like the superstar he is on a consistent basis.
LeBron James has also been producing at a high level in this series, there is a lot at stake for the King in this game. He has yet to lose a playoff series in which he has a 2-game lead at any point, plus there is also the debate in which he is trying to improve his all-time position among the greats of our game. Another ring would make a big difference for him, so expect a motivated James in tonight’s game.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors have a few streaks of their own on the line here. They’ve won a road game in 28 consecutive series, tonight would be the perfect game to continue that run, otherwise they are going home. Head coach Steve Kerr has also never lost a series outside of the NBA Finals with the Warriors, so it’ll be interesting to see if those two streaks survive tonight’s game.
The Game 5 win was huge for Golden State, Draymond Green made a huge impact scoring 20 points which is something we haven’t seen in years. Klay Thompson has left a lot on the table so far in this series, we all know about his Game 6 heroics from years past, so I’ll be keeping an eye on him in this game. The Warriors haven’t covered the spread in 5 straight visits to Crypto.com Arena, they enter tonight’s game as 2.5 point underdogs.
Although they’re facing the champions here, I just have to go with the Lakers. If they lost tonight’s game they stand no chance in Game 7 on Sunday. The projected total has gone all the way down to 221 points here, which isn’t a surprise considering the last game in this building produced just 205 points. I think if the Lakers are to win this game, we’ll have to see them perform at the highest level on defense. They eliminated the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 6 in Round 1 by holding them to just 85 points, the Warriors will present a much more difficult challenge, but it’ll take a similar effort to win tonight’s game.
This team is ranked first in defensive rating during these playoffs, and for the season they are 19-28 on the O/U in home games. The under cashed with ease in Game 4 in LA, that was the 4th time in 5 away games Golden State has gone under. With them putting up just 97 and 101 points in 2 games in LA this postseason, I feel like the under is a solid bet here.
