The Calgary Flames have an amazing season so far as they are second in the Pacific Division and in the Western Conference with a 13-4-5 record only one point short of the leading Edmonton Oilers. Their four-game winning streak with two shutdown victories was snapped on Monday with a 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets but the Flames came back to winning track with a 2-1 shootout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in their last game.

Mikael Backlund scored the deciding goal in the seventh round of a suspenseful shootout. Jacob Markstrom sealed the victory by stopping Brock McGinn on Pittsburgh’s final attempt.

Milan Lucic scored in regulation for Calgary, which is 6-1-2 in its last nine games. Markstrom finished with 21 saves to improve to 9-4-4.
