To nobody’s surprise the Clippers are off to a hot start to the new season with consecutive wins over the Lakers and Kings. This will be a 2nd night of a back-to-back for them, but there won’t be much travel involved as they are coming back from Sacramento which is a short flight from LA. Both Kawhi Leonard and John Wall sat out last night’s game in order to play tonight. It didn’t make much of a difference for LA as they had Paul George step up with 40 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the win. Two other starters in Reggie Jackson and Ivica Zubac also chipped in double-digit points as the Clippers are now looking to win their 3rd consecutive game. LA is 16-3 SU in their last 19 at home against the Suns and with Kawhi coming back into the line-up you’d have to think they are the favorites to continue that solid run.
Phoenix Suns
The Suns could also have a couple of players back in time for tonight’s game as Jae Crowder and Landry Shamet have both been upgraded to probable after missing the previous couple of games. Phoenix will need them as they’ve struggled a bit with depth over the first 2 games of the season. Both of their games so far were really close, they managed to squeeze out a win against Dallas on opening night, but fell short in Portland on Thursday 113-111 after Overtime. The play of Devin Booker has been encouraging so far as he dropped 28 and 33 points in the two games, but he won’t be able to do it all by himself offensively. I’m curious to see how Chris Paul does against his former team here and the battle down low between Deandre Ayton and Ivica Zubac could also be a highlight of this game. Bettors haven’t made a ton of money on Phoenix lately, this team is entering tonight’s game after covering the spread just once in the last 7 outings.
It’s hard to look past the home team here, they’ve utterly dominated this match-up at home and with their best player getting a night off he should be fresh and ready to go here. I expect a tight game, but in the end the Clippers should have enough to overcome the underachieving Suns.

The total is set to 219 points by the oddsmakers, which is a bit high considering that number was surpassed only once in the last 7 meetings. The O/U stats are 3-7 over the last 10 with an average of just 207.6 points per game scored during that stretch. Defense wins championships and that is the mindset both of these teams will have this season and I think we will see that on full display tonight. Kawhi Leonard is more than capable of neutralizing Devin Booker, so far through 2 games the Suns have relied on him quite a lot to score the basketball.
Getting Crowder back from injury is also a boost on the defensive end for Phoenix and with the Clippers playing last night in Sacramento they will probably opt to slow things down a bit here. The under has cashed in all 5 of their previous games vs Pacific Division teams and for Phoenix that has happened in 13 of their last 16 such games. All in all I am expecting the under to land here, so let’s go with that.
