Los Angeles Clippers
With the Minnesota Timberwolves, 6 games in front of them and the New Orleans Pelicans 4.5 games behind them, the Clippers look to be headed towards the 8th seed which isn’t all that bad considering their injury luck this season. More importantly, though, they just received news of Paul George being cleared to start practising with the team, which is a massive boost for their playoff hopes. If they can also get Kawhi Leonard, this team has the potential to be a force in the postseason.
They are just coming off a 12-point road loss at Denver, in the game before that they were blown out by the Jazz by 29 points. This team desperately needs new blood inserted in the line-up and George will provide exactly that in the coming few weeks. He probably won’t play tonight, so it’ll be a tough game against the red-hot Sixers. Even though LA won the first meeting, this will be a completely different 76ers side.
Philly has 4 wins in 5 games, they are coming off a big win over the Clippers’ cross-town rivals the Lakers. Joel Embiid had another 30 point game, while 3 other 76ers scored 20 or more points. James Harden finished with 24 and 7 assists, as a team Philly shot 51.6% from the field and turned the ball over just 7 times.
A performance like that would almost guarantee them a win in tonight’s game as well, they’ve beaten the Clippers in 6 of the last 9 meetings, plus if we expand that to the last 12 head-to-head they are 9-3 ATS. This team is pretty much healthy from the top to the bottom which is something rare at this point of the season, so the confidence level will be at a high entering tonight’s game. Philly has covered in 4 of 5 road games against LA.
As much as I like how much the Clippers overachieved this season, I’m still going with the team with Embiid and Harden here, they are just too talented. They’ve won 4 of 5 vs West coast teams, expect that to improve tonight.
Los Angeles Clippers vs Philadelphia 76ers Predictions
Philly’s last game against the Lakers ended with 247 points scored, that was the 7th time in 8 road games that the over had cashed which is a trend that is too hard to ignore. The Clippers have also gone over the total quite a lot recently, their last 7 of 9 home games have all cashed on that bet and for the season they are 19-16 on the O/U at Crypto.com Arena.
Looking at the last 10 meetings, we saw an average of 222.8 points per game scored which would put us over the projected total of 221.5 points here. The last meeting ended with just 203 points, but this was before the 76ers got James Harden.
Since the trade, they’ve gone 10-5-1 on the O/U which is a clear indicator of the style of play the Beard brings in. Their last 2 games both went over the total and I expect more of the same in tonight’s game so let’s back the points here.
