Los Angeles Clippers vs Cleveland Cavaliers betting tips and predictions for Monday’s NBA game on NBA TV. The Kawhi-less Clippers are looking to bounce back from last night’s home defeat against Utah as they welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers who just beat the Lakers. Read on for all our free predictions and betting tips.
Los Angeles Clippers
The 3-game win streak is over for the Clippers as they lost against Utah 110-102 last night at home. Paul George once again had 34 points, but none of his teammates stepped up when it mattered and the Clippers are back to the drawing board now. No Kawhi Leonard has severally limited the offensive output, right now LA is the lowest scoring team by far in the NBA with a 102.7 offensive rating.
It won’t get any easier tonight as they go up against one of the elite defensive teams in the league, the Cavaliers just held the Lakers to 100 points in the same building yesterday. The Clippers will be hanging their hopes on their head-to-head record against the Cavs having beaten them in 7 of the last 10 meetings. This is the first time in a long time we have the Clippers as underdogs at home against a Eastern Conference opponent. In that scenario they are just 2-11 in the last 13 games.
After taking the night off in the win over Detroit, Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland made a triumphant return to the line-up for the Cavaliers who improved to 8-1 on the season after beating the Lakers 114-110 on the early tip-off on Sunday. Mitchell went over 30 points once again, while Garland added 24 and 7 assists. What was more impressive though was the Cavs defense, especially on the perimeter as they held LA to under 30% shooting.
Defense has been the staple of this team which has allowed them to go 4-1 on the road in their first 5 games. They do face a tough task tonight though, at least if we go by recent head-to-head meetings. Cavs have dropped 7 of their last 9 vs the Clippers and have covered in just 3 of the last 12 meetings.
I’m expecting a close game here, but ultimately you have to back the in-form team here. Cleveland looks like an early title contender, while the Clippers are stuck in mediocrity without their best player Kawhi Leonard. Take the road team to get the job done.
Los Angeles Clippers vs Cleveland Cavaliers Predictions & Odds
We might be having one of those old fashioned 90s scores in tonight’s game, at least that’s what the stats are pointing to. Cleveland just held their last 2 opponents to 100 and 88 points, they’ve been elite on defense since opening day and right now only the Milwaukee Bucks have a better defensive rating two weeks into the season. The Clippers also play solid defense, but mostly because of their limitations on offense and a slower pace.
Speaking of pace the Cavaliers also like to slow things down, they average 97.7 possessions per game which ranks them only 27th in the entire NBA. The Clippers are also in the bottom 10 tempo-wise, so we might see more than a few possessions where teams are setting up the offense in the half-court. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, bettors have made a lot of money backing the under in Clippers games this season. They’ve gone only once over the total in 9 games, while the Cavaliers are 2-3 on the O/U in 5 road games. All the stats are saying back the under, so let’s go with that.
