New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans PelicansThe last week of basketball could very well be the best one of the season so far for the New Orleans Pelicans as they’ve doubled and tripled their win total. They’re coming off a surprising 94-81 win over the LA Clippers, Jonas Valanciunas led the scoring with 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Brandon Ingram continued his solid play after returning from injury with 17 points and 12 rebounds of his own. This was only the 3rd win for the Pelicans this season, I’m interested to see how they do tonight as their road form has been awful this year with just 1 win in 9 games so far. They’re still without Zion Williamson, joining him on the sidelines for this one could be Devonte’ Graham who has a foot injury. The Pelicans are just 3-7 ATS in their lats 10 games, but against Indiana they’ve done well against the spread covering in 9 of the last 11 games.

Indiana Pacers

Indiana PacersAfter a promising stretch of 6 wins in 8 games, the Indiana Pacers have dropped 3 straight against Eastern Conference opponents the Knicks, Pistons and Hornets. The loss against the Pistons left a bitter taste in their mouths on Wednesday, they followed it up with another disappointing effort against the Hornets last night and lost 121-118. They got solid production from their bench, but the defense was non-existent as they let the Hornets shoot 54% from the field and 38% from three-point land. For tonight’s game they could once again be shorthanded with Chris Duarte potentially sitting this one out. Over their last 6 games they’ve covered the spread just twice and against the Pelicans they are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games against them.

I’ve trusted the Pacers a few times this season and they’ve let me down every single time. This team is an enigma – they lose against Denver who was without Jokic, but follow it up with a road win at Utah. Then they beat Philadelphia and follow that up with 3 straight defeats against mediocre teams. The Pelicans are on the uprise and even if they don’t win here, I think they’ll keep the game within striking distance. Give me New Orleans to cover.

Indiana Pacers – New Orleans Pelicans Predictions

Pelicans +7.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

Looking at the pace numbers for both teams we can notice that they play a similar style averaging 99.9 and 99.8 possessions per game. Offensively the Pacers put up slightly better numbers, but we have to take into account the Pelicans were without Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson for most of the season so far. Ingram is now back and their scoring is up over their last 3 games, which is a good sign ahead of tonight’s game. The Over has been the bet in 2 of the last 3 meetings with the two teams averaging 234 points between them in those games and shooting around 48% from the field. 7 of the last 8 games for New Orleans vs Central Division teams have also gone over the total, take that into account and Indiana’s leaky defense last night, I think we are in for a high paced game here with a ton of scoring on both ends. Give me the over.
