After shocking the Memphis Grizzlies 123-112 and ending a 12-game losing streak, the Houston Rockets were brought back to Earth by the Miami Heat after a 123-106 defeat on the road. Christian Wood didn’t play in that game, he was a huge part of their upset win against Memphis and tonight against the Lakers he is listed as questionable once again.
Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green had 22 and 20 points, their performances will be key for the Rockets in this one. Against the much experienced Lakers they are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games and at home this season they’ve won just twice in 18 games. Eric Gordon is also on the injure report, he could be rested tonight which would be another blow to the Houston ambitions here.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers are currently on a 10-game win streak in head-to-head meetings against the Rockets which is the perfect opportunity to put an end to their 8-game road losing streak tonight. LeBron James didn’t play against the San Antonio Spurs in their previous game which resulted in a 7-point road loss, but he should be back tonight even though he is officially listed as questionable due to knee soreness.
He had 56 points over the weekend in the win over Golden State, with so many great individual performances over the past 5 days in the NBA I wouldn’t be surprised he went for another big game tonight. The Lakers could use that, they’ve covered the spread just once in 6 games overall and against Western Conference opponents they are 1-5 SU in their last 6 games.
All losing streaks have to come to an end and I am feeling the Lakers here with their recent head-to-head record against the Rockets, especially if both Wood and Gordon are unavailable. LeBron gives the Lakers another dimension offensively, with him back in the line-up they are much better on paper than the Rockets who are bottom of the Western Conference. Back the road team here.
Houston Rockets vs Los Angeles Lakers Predictions & Odds
I have to admit, I do not see much defence being played in tonight’s game as that’s really not the style either of these two teams have nurtured throughout this season. The Rockets are 18-12 on the O/U at the Toyota Center, while the Lakers are 16-13 in road games. Over their last 3 games Lakers opponents have dropped 121.7 points per game on them, while the Rockets have given up 117 per game.
Houston is the worst team in the NBA this season when it comes to opponent points per game at home where they give up 117.4 per game, while only 6 teams give up more points per game this season than the Lakers do on the road.
There is also the element of Russell Westbrook facing his old team, knowing the player that he is I am certain he will want to put on a show here just to prove his former team they were wrong in trading him. These are the 1st and 6th ranked teams in terms of pace this season, expect a ton of points to be scored here. Go with the over.
