Houston Rockets

Houston RocketsEven though they’ve won 2 of their last 5 games, the Houston Rockets are back to their old habits of getting blown out by everyone. They’ve dropped 3 in a row and their last 2 losses were by 30 against San Antonio and 15 against the shorthanded Portland Trail Blazers. This team continues to play hot and cold this season, they remain bottom of the Western Conference with a 14-35 record.

However, with the Thunder and kings losing 7 and 6 games in a row, they have a decent chance of moving up, if they want to. This team has no incentive of winning right now as finishing last in the Western Conference would guarantee them a high spot in next season’s NBA draft which would definitely help with the re-build. With just 2 wins in their last 20 games vs Pacific Division teams, their chances are very slim in tonight’s game.

Golden State Warriors

Golden State WarriorsThe Warriors are on the complete opposite side of the spectrum with 5 wins in a row as they continue to chase the Phoenix Suns for the number one spot in the Western Conference. Stephen Curry had one solid game against Minnesota, but continued to struggle from the field against the Nets with just 19 points and 5-for-18 shooting. Over his last 9 games he is shooting just 39% from the field and 33% from downtown, far below what we are accustomed to seeing from him.

His backcourt mate Klay Thompson is still working his way back from injury. Over the 7 games he has played in he is averaging almost 16 points per game on 41% shooting from the field and 34% from three point land. Golden State has beaten 4 of their last 5 opponents from the Western Conference, however on the road they’ve covered just 1 time in their last 6 games.

These 2 teams just played each other 10 days ago and the Warriors just barely won by 2 points at home. This being a road game and taking their recent form into account, I think they’ll win again, but it won’t be by a ton of points. Go with the home team and the double digit spread.

Houston Rockets vs Golden State Warriors Predictions & Odds

With not a lot of pressure coming into tonight’s game, this could be the perfect opportunity for Curry to break out of his shooting slump. He has scored 30 or more points in 2 of his last 4 against the Rockets, plus the Warriors have been on fire over their last 3 games scoring 110, 124 and 130 points. Houston has gotten blown out by the Blazers 125-110 and by the Spurs 134-104 in their last 2 games, so their defense has struggled a lot lately.

This will be a meeting of the fastest paced and the 12th fastest paced teams in the league. In the last 10 meetings head-to-head they’ve averaged 220.6 points per game between each other. Houston has a tendency to go over the point total quite often this season. This has happened in 14 of their last 20 games overall and in 11 of their last 14 against Western Conference teams.

In games played at the Toyota Center they are 14-8 for the season in favor of the Over, so that could be a sign of what’s to come in tonight’s game. I’m expecting a different score line than the one we saw 10 days ago, so if the Warriors get hot early we could see a massive total in the end here. Back the points.
