The Gonzaga Bulldogs are top favorites to win the NCAA championship this season and they have started as expected even though they didn’t face an opponent that can be a real challenge.
The Bulldogs are 2-0 so far with confident wins against Dixie State and Texas.
In their opening match on Wednesday, when they hosted the Trailblazers, Gonzaga easily won 97-63 despite bad three-point and free-throw shooting. Mark Few’s team shot a decent 54.4% from the field but only 28.6% (6-21) from behind the arc and 70.8% (17-24) from the stripe.
Five players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs with sophomore Julian Strawhter leading the way with 17 points. Senior guard Rasir Bolton added 15 while Zags’ best player, Drew Timme had 11. Freshman center Chet Holmgren had a great debut recording 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Four days later, the Bulldogs hosted the Texas Longhorns which are ranked 5th in the country but the visitors didn’t stand any chance as the Zags won 86-74.
Timme was brilliant this time scoring 37 points, shooting 15-19 from the field. Bolton again was good with 16 points on 4-6 from the three-point line while backup forward Anton Watson added 10 points.

The Bulldogs went undefeated in the last regular season and they will definitely try to repeat that, even go one step further to win the NCAA championship. No players are on the injury list as they host Alcorn State.
Alcorn State Braves Stats & Form
The Braves have lost their first three games of the season, all of them on the road.
First, they were blown out against Washington State, 85-67. Sophomore guard Paul King and junior guard Oddyst Walker were the only Braves to score in double digits with both of them finishing with 10 points.
The next two games were much closer but Alcron State failed in both.
In a 69-66 loss to Seattle U, the Braves trailed by 8 at the half and despite a good second half couldn’t come back. Freshman backup forward Keondre Montgomery was the leading scorer with 17 points.
In their third loss, 62-58 to Portland, guard Byron Joshua was the best player with 20 points.
