It’s not like the Warriors didn’t have their chances in Game 4, they just couldn’t execute down the stretch with the game being close in the 4th quarter. Now it’s up to Steph and co. to save their season and potentially their dynasty as they’re back at home where they’ve won 33 of 41 games this season.
The situation is far from ideal though, Klay Thompson has struggled all series long, Jordan Poole has completely disappeared since his heroic three-point attempt in Game 1 and Golden State just hasn’t looked like last season’s champion. Playing in front of the home fans will be a lift for them, they’ve won 15 of 18 games at Chase Center and 12 of their last 17 when playing as the favorite.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers showed a lot of character by winning both home games and now they have a chance to move on to their first Conference Finals since they did so back in 2020. Lonnie Walker IV came up big for them in Game 4 by scoring 15 points in the 4th quarter, taking over the game offensively from the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis down the stretch.
Depth is an integral part of championship teams and the Lakers are showing to have way more of it than the Warriors so far in this series. The odds are now in LA’s favor as we head into San Francisco for Game 5, but even if they don’t finish off the defending champions tonight they’ll have 2 more opportunities. The Lakers are 15-4 SU in their last 19 games vs Western Conference opponents and 6-1 SU/ATS in their last 7 head-to-head with the Warriors.
The spread is at 7 points and although that sounds a bit high, I expect Golden State to come out with a lot of energy here. We saw that close games don’t favor them in this series, so in order to stay alive here they’ll need to win big time. They’ve done it already once in Game 2, so I like their chances tonight. One of the adjustments the Warriors made in that Game 2 victory which resulted in a 27-point win is them benching Kevon Looney in favor of a smaller player JaMychal Green at the center position. That sped things up significantly and the Lakers just couldn’t hang around for long. If head coach Steve Kerr is smart he will do something similar in tonight’s game, when you’re playing an aging roster like the Lakers the only way to beat them is to wear them down.
Both LeBron James and Anthony Davis logged 40+ minutes in Game 4 so they might be gassed midway through the second half in this game. The over has cashed in 5 of the last 6 meetings between the two teams at Chase Center and with LA being 28-18 on the O/U in road games this season I feel like backing the points is the way to go here.
