Golden State Warriors
The Warriors reserves put up solid resistance last night, but in the end they fell 131-124 at Denver. Jordan Poole and Moses Moody each had 32 and 30 points as the Warriors shot 51.1% from the field, but they just didn’t have any answers for Nikola Jokic who finished with 32 points, 15 boards and 13 assists.
They allowed Denver to shoot almost 55% from the field, that kind of effort on the defensive end simply isn’t enough in today’s NBA. The starters should return tonight though, so we should see a completely different team out there.
What’s even more encouraging for Warriors fans is that Draymond Green has revealed he is returning to the line-up in 7-10 days, just in time to build much needed chemistry as we approach the final month of the regular season. Golden State is one of the worst teams in the NBA over the last month or so of play. They’ve won just 1 of their last 8 games and are currently on a 5-game losing streak vs Western Conference opponents.
Resting for 3 days didn’t have the desired effect on the Clippers players as their 5-game win streak was ended by the New York Knicks a couple of nights ago. The team managed just 93 points in a 23-point home loss as all 5 starters struggled to score.
Reggie Jackson finished with just 10 points on 4-for-18 shooting, a significant drop-off following his 36 point performance in the win over the Lakers. It’s going to be a challenge to bounce back tonight against one of the best guards we have in the NBA, but Reggie will be up for the challenge.
He has led his Clippers to a 7-2 ATS record over their last 9 games and they’ve also dominated the Warriors lately winning 6 of the last 9 meetings as well. Against Western Conference opponents the Clippers are a perfect 5-0 SU over their last 5 outings.
Covering a 7-point spread at home could be challenging for the Warriors who haven’t been in sync for a while now. Until Draymond is back I am not ready to trust this team. The Clippers are 18-15 ATS in road games this season, they should bounce back with a big performance here.
Golden State Warriors vs LA Clippers Predictions & Odds
When it comes to scoring, the big key for the Warriors lately has been their lack of play on the defensive end. That has led to 9 of their last 10 games finishing over the total, including their last 5 in a row against Pacific Division opponents.
Getting their starters back will also be a big boost to their offence, but even without them this team was able to drop 124 points last night at Denver. The Clippers have trended towards the under a bit lately, but if we look at the head-to-head meetings we can see that these 2 teams have been involved in some high scoring games lately.
The last head-to-head have averaged 225.8 points per game which is encouraging for out bet here. Both teams are capable of pushing the pace when needed, they average 101 and 100.7 possessions per game this season, ranking in the Top 15 in the pace of play.
I think the Warriors will continue playing at a high speed until Green is back and without them I cannot see them holding anyone to a reasonable amount of points. Let’s back the over in this one.
