The Warriors had us fooled once again on the road as they decided to rest all their starters against the New Orleans Pelicans. Many bettors had already placed their bets on that game, after which the Warriors pulled the plug just hours before the game.
Without Curry, Green, Thompson and Wiggins it ended in a 45-point loss without, to nobody’s surprise. Tonight is a new opportunity for this group though as they try to elevate themselves in the West standings. The Clippers could be a tricky opponent, but the defending champs will be encouraged by the fact they’ve won their last 6 home games.
LA Clippers
LA will be without a couple of key players here with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Luke Kennard all ruled out. That’s a big blow to their ambitions, because of that the spread has been set at 9-points in favor of the home team here. The Clippers did show some life lately winning 4 of their last 5 games, however without their two best players it’s just not the same team anymore.
In head-to-head meetings they are only 2-4 SU in the last 6 played, but they did cover the spread in 5 straight against Western Conference opponents. The Clippers will be relying on the likes of Reggie Jackson, Marcus Morris Sr., Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac in tonight’s game. Will that be enough? As underdogs this team has 1 win and 2 losses in 3 games this season.
It’s hard for me to consider the Clippers here with so many players out. Golden State is well rested and getting back all their key guys. On paper 9 points does sound like a lot, but the Warriors are a high octane offense which can blow out teams on any given night. Let’s go with the home team here.

In a game in which the Clippers have almost 50 points per game out with injuries, the projected total has been set at a relatively high 222 points. LA is used to taking things slow this season, they rank only 22nd in the NBA in pace of play averaging 100.4 possessions per game. Their defensive efficiency is only 2nd to the Milwaukee Bucks at 105 points allowed per 100 possessions.
The Warriors tend to play a more scoring style, especially in home games, but I think they will be limited tonight, especially on transition as the Clippers are very good at stopping that. In their last home game against the New York Knicks they managed a modest 111 points while allowing 101. With the total going under in 6 of 9 overall for Golden State and in 5 of the last 7 meetings between these teams, I have no other choice but to back the under yet again here.
