Phoenix Suns

Phoenix SunsPhoenix’s win streak has reached 18 games in a row after their latest win against the Detroit Pistons at home last night. That has set a new franchise record, which could be in danger tonight as they take on the Warriors. These two teams actually met earlier this week with the Suns winning 104-96, ending a 7-game win streak for Golden State. The win did come at a cost though as they lost Devin Booker to a hamstring injury, he will most likely not play in tonight’s game and miss an extended period of time. What was most impressive about the win is the fact that they were the first team this season to hold the Warriors under 100 points in a game. Tonight could be tough though, they’ve won just twice in their last 16 visits to Golden State.

Golden State Warriors

Golden State WarriorsStephen Curry had just 12 points on 4-for-21 shooting in that loss to Phoenix and knowing his mentality, he will do everything he can to make amends tonight. Despite only 96 points scored in that game, there were some positives to take away for the Warriors. Jordan Poole had 28 and 6 threes made, while Otto Porter Jr. came off the bench to score 16 points. As a team they only shot 42% from the field, something that will have to improve tonight if they want to get the win. Golden State is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games, at home they’ve covered the spread in 6 games in a row. They’ll be without Andre Iguodala once more as he has been ruled out again with his persistent knee issue.

Suns are shorthanded without Booker in this one, they’ve been the underdogs only twice this season and have gone 1-1 in those 2 games. On the road they’ve covered the spread 6 times in 10 games. The oddsmakers have them as underdogs by 6.5 points here, I think that’s a bit too much for a team that’s won 18 in a row. Give me the Suns to cover.

Whoever has the upper hand on defense will win this game, that’s exactly what happened in the previous matchup which finished with just 200 points scored. Two of the last 3 games finished under the total between the two teams, which is an encouraging stat. Golden State games have a tendency to go under the total more often than not. That has happened in 8 of their last 10 games overall and in 9 of their last 11 games vs Western Conference teams this season. The Suns like to keep their games low scoring in December for some reason, 5 of their last 6 played in this month have all gone under the total. With a 20+ point per game scorer in Booker being out here, they will have to dig deep into their rotation to compensate for that loss. Golden State holds opponents to just 100.2 points per game at Chase Center this season, so I’m thinking this will be a high intensity game on the defensive end of the court. Give me the under.
